The Assistance Fund (TAF) is an independent charitable patient assistance foundation that helps patients and families facing high medical out-of-pocket costs by providing financial assistance for their copayments, coinsurance, deductibles, and other health-related expenses. TAF assisted 50,071 patients in 2019, up from 36,157 in 2018 while also increasing their number of disease funds from 49 in 2018 to 61 in 2019. TAF improved visibility, scalability, service and accuracy by reducing its reliance on third parties and established an internal IT team. TAF's in-house patient advocate team increased from 26 in 2018 to 29 in 2019; handling approximately 166,000 phone calls. TAF launched a quarterly patient newsletter and leveraged social media campaigns and its marketing site to increase patient education and communication.
