IN ADDITION TO ENRICHING THE LIVES OF CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE, BRIDGES OF LIGHT ALSO STRIVES TO BE A RESOURCE FOR THE COMMUNITY. THE ORGANIZATION PARTNERS WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE UNDUPLICATED SERVICES TO CHILDREN AND FAMILIIES AND RESPOND TO CRITICAL COMMUNITY NEEDS THAT OTHERWISE COULD NOT BE MET. THE KEY INITATIVES OF BRIDGES OF LIGHT ARE TO PROVIDE PROGRAMS AND OPPORTUNITIES NOT NORMALLY OFFERED TO CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE WITH THE GOAL OF EMPOWERING AND ENABLING THEM TO BECOME INDEPENDENT, SUCCESSFUL MEMBERS OF THEIR COMMUNITY. THE ORANIZATION'S ACTIVITIES FOCUS ON DEVELOPING A STRONG ACADEMIC FOUNDATION THAT ENABLES CHILDREN TO CREATE AND ACHIEVE GOALS. THESE GOALS INCLUDE COMPLETING A COLLEGE EDUCATION IN THEIR DESIRED FIELD OF STUDY.

THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES TUTORING FOR CHILDREN WHO NEED ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE IN THEIR ACADEMIC PROGRAMS. THE FOUNDATION HAS APPROXIMATELY 10 INDIVIDUALS PROVIDING THESE SERVICES TO VARIOUS CHILDREN IN NEED OF ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE. THE HOMES IN WHICH THESE TUTORS ARE ASSISTING HAVE SHOWN SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN THE STUDENT'S GRADE POINT AVERAGES. THIS ALLOWS MANY OF THE CHILDREN TO ATTEND COLLEGE WHO WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO OBTAIN THE NECESSARY GPA WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF THE FOUNDATION.
