Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO PREPARE AND ENCOURAGE PRE-COLLEGE STUDENTS TO ENTER TECHNICAL FIELDS OF STUDY AND PURSUE EMPLOYMENT IN THE CENTRAL FLORIDA HIGH-TECH WORKFORCE. THE ORGANIZATION HOPES TO ACCOMPLISH THIS BY ADVOCATING ON BEHALF OF STEM PROGRAMS IN THE REGION; COMMUNICATING THE IMPORTANCE OF STEM TO PARENTS, TEACHERS AND STUDENTS; AND COLLABORATING WITH MEMBER ORGANIZATIONS IN THE CONTINUING DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR STEM PROGRAMS.
THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION IS:1. TO COLLABORATIVELY COORDINATE AND PLAN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATH ("STEM") EDUCATION EFFORTS TO PREPARE AND ENCOURAGE PRE-COLLEGE STUDENTS TO ENTER TECHNICAL FIELDS OF STUDY AND PURSUE EMPLOYMENT IN THE CENTRAL FLORIDA HIGH-TECH WORKFORCE. 2. TO ADVOCATE FOR STEM EDUCATION AND THE EXCHANGE OF STEM INFORMATION WITHIN FLORIDA'S ORANGE, SEMINOLE, OSCEOLA, BREVARD, VOLUSIA, LAKE, POLK AND FLAGLER COUNTIES ("COUNCIL REGION").3. TO PROACTIVELY EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF STEM EDUCATION TO CONSTITUENT GROUPS, PROGRAMS AND ORGANIZATIONS WITHIN THE COUNCIL REGION.
COMMUNITY COUNCIL OUTREACH - TO INFORM PARENTS, TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ABOUT STEM ACTIVITIES AND THE IMPORTANCE OF STEM EDUCATION. COORDINATED WITH FIRST LEGO LEAGUE TO HOLD STATE COMPETITION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA BRINGING MORE EXPOSURE TO STEM ACTIVITIES IN THE CENTRAL FLORIDA REGION.
SEAPERCH - UNDERWATER ROBOTICS PROGRAM HELD SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE YEAR FOR APPROXIMATELY 50 MIDDLE-SCHOOL-AGED STUDENTS. STUDENTS ARE PROVIDED AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN ABOUT ROBOTICS, ENGINEERING, SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS WHILE BUILDING AN UNDERWATER REMOTELY OPERATED VEHICLE.YMCA STEM CAMPS - SCIENCE RELATED SUMMER CLASSES HELD AT VARIOUS YMCA LOCATIONS TO TEACH AND PROVIDE STEM EDUCATION MENTORS TO OVER 100 CHILDREN.
EXHIBITION AT THE INTERSERVICE/INDUSTRY TRAINING, SIMULATION AND EDUCATION CONFERENCE (I/IT SEC) TO BRING AWARENESS OF THE STEM PURPOSE TO APPROXIMATELY 5900 EXHIBIT VISITORS, 3300 CONFERENCE ATTENDEES AND OVER 1900 FROM 75 COUNTRIES.
