THE CURRENT PRIMARY CHARITABLE INITIATIVES OF THE FLORIDA CITRUS SPORTS FOUNDATION (FCSF) INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: SUMMER CAMP - FCSF ANNUALLY CONDUCTS ONE EIGHT-WEEK SESSION OF A FREE SUMMER CAMP, WHICH SERVES APPROXIMATELY 100 ECONOMICALLY-DISADVANTAGED LOCAL MIDDLE SCHOOL CHILDREN IN GRADES FIVE THROUGH EIGHT. THE MAJORITY OF PARTICIPANTS OF THE CAMP ARE RESIDENTS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD SURROUNDING CAMPING WORLD STADIUM. IN 26 YEARS, MORE THAN 5,800 NEEDY YOUTH HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE CAMP. THE FOCUS IS UPON ACADEMICS, ATHLETICS, ATTITUDE, AND ACHIEVEMENT AND ENDEAVORS TO STIMULATE CONFIDENCE AND TEAMWORK IN PARTICIPANTS AND TO TEACH VALUABLE LIFE SKILLS. INSTRUCTION IS PROVIDED BY THE ORLANDO POLICE DEPARTMENT AND SCHOOL TEACHERS WITH A SCHOOL-BASED, LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER-INSTRUCTED CLASSROOM CURRICULUM WITH ITS PRIMARY EMPHASIS ON THE PREVENTION OF DELINQUENCY, YOUTH VIOLENCE, AND GANG MEMBERSHIP. IN ADDITION, EACH WEEK CAMPERS RECEIVE INSTRUCTION IN COMPUTER AND INTERNET SKILLS. IN EACH SESSION, CAMPERS PARTICIPATE IN SPORTS ACTIVITIES LIKE BASKETBALL, FOOTBALL, DANCE, SOCCER, AND SWIMMING. WHILE SPORTS ARE THE HOOK TO GET YOUNG PEOPLE INTERESTED IN THE CAMP, THE BROADER GOAL IS TO PROVIDE A SAFE HAVEN, A PRODUCTIVE ALTERNATIVE TO THE STREETS AT A TIME WHEN SCHOOL IS NOT IN SESSION TO HELP THEM BUILD LONG-TERM SKILLS. THIS EVENT ALLOWS THESE DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN FROM THE LIFT FOOTPRINT TO INTERACT WITH PLAYERS IN A ONE-ON-ONE ENVIRONMENT IN THE SPIRIT OF CAMARADERIE, FELLOWSHIP AND FUN. IN ADDITION, 150 LIFT FOOTPRINT KIDS PARTICIPATED IN A SIMILAR OUTING WITH THE CAMPING WORLD BOWL PLAYERS AND COACHES AT ANDRETTI'S KARTING & GAMES.
