SERVES PRIMARILY LOW-INCOME STUDENTS WITH THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF INCREASING GRADUATION RATES THROUGH PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO FOSTER ENTREPRENEURSHIP, WORK READINESS AND FINANCIAL LITERACY ALL PROMOTING FREE ENTERPRISE.
PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING FOUNDED ON FREE ENTERPRISE AND FOCUSED ON FINANCIAL LITERACY, WORK READINESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOR STUDENTS PRIMARILY IN TITLE I PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN CENTRAL FLORIDA.
FIRST ACCOMPLISHMENT:JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT IS COMMITTED TO IMPROVING THE LIVES OF STUDENTS, THEIR FAMILIES AND OUR COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING FOCUSED ON FINANCIAL LITERACY, WORK READINESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOR STUDENTS IN ORANGE, OSCEOLA AND SEMINOLE COUNTIES MOSTLY IN TITLE I SCHOOLS. TITLE I SCHOOLS SERVE A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS FROM LOW-INCOME FAMILIES WHO ARE STRUGGLING TO MAKE ACADEMIC PROGRESS, AND STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THESE SCHOOLS ARE OFTEN HEAVILY MINORITY AND INCLUDE MIGRANT FAMILY STUDENTS, STUDENTS WITH LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY, HOMELESS STUDENTS, AND AT-RISK STUDENTS STRUGGLING WITH THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF POVERTY. JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF CENTRAL FLORIDA HAS SERVED MORE THAN 2,000,000 STUDENTS SINCE ITS INCEPTION AND, DURING THE 2019/2020 SCHOOL YEAR, JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF CENTRAL FLORIDA SERVED 24,000 CENTRAL FLORIDA STUDENTS INCLUDING:- ALMOST 9,600 GRADUATING SENIORS ENROLLED IN A 26-LESSON, "REAL LIFE" FINANCIAL SKILLS PROGRAM (IN PERSON AND VIRTUALLY). JACF WAS ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY TRANSITION TO MEET VIRTUAL NEEDS OF OUR SCHOOL DISTRICTS DURING THE 4TH QUARTER, AND THIS NEW VIRTUAL PLATFORM WILL ENABLE US TO EXPAND OUR PROGRAM REACH TO MORE THAN 12,000 CENTRAL FLORIDA STUDENTS IN THE 2020/21 SCHOOL YEAR. JACF IS WORKING TO ENSURE THAT ALL STUDENTS CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS PROGRAM NO MATTER WHERE CLASSROOM IS LOCATED.- OVER 4,000 MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN AN INNOVATIVE, "HANDS ON" CAREER EXPLORATION EVENT (JA INSPIRE, SEE ACCOMPLISHMENT 3 BELOW).- MORE THAN 5,000 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS WERE TAUGHT IN A CLASSROOM SETTING, WITH MANY ENGAGED IN LEARNING THE PRACTICAL STEPS TO STARTING A BUSINESS.
SECOND ACCOMPLISHMENT:THE JA ACADEMY FOR LEADERSHIP & ENTREPRENEURSHIP, THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN AMERICA, OPENED IN 2012 OFFERING AN INNOVATIVE "SCHOOL WITHIN A SCHOOL" DESIGN MODEL WITHIN OAK RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL, A TITLE I PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL LOCATED IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA. SINCE OUR DOORS OPENED, THE JA ACADEMY CONTINUES TO BRING REAL WORLD CONNECTIVITY INTO THE EVERYDAY ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE TO CREATE A HIGHLY ENGAGING AND RELEVANT LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. THE JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT PRINCIPLES OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND FREE ENTERPRISE ARE TAUGHT WHILE PREPARING STUDENTS FOR THE WORKPLACE, AND FINANCIAL LITERACY AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS ARE INTEGRATED INTO EVERY CORE CLASS. THE PROGRAM FEATURES:- A "FULL IMMERSION" CURRICULUM THAT MIXES LEADERSHIP, BUSINESS, AND ACADEMIC CONCEPTS AND PROMOTES THE PRINCIPLES OF FREE ENTERPRISE- HANDS-ON EXPERIENCES SUCH AS JOB SHADOWING, INTERNSHIPS, VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES, FIELD TRIPS AND EXECUTIVE GUEST LECTURES- MENTORING AND NETWORKING THROUGH JACF'S VAST NETWORK OF BUSINESS SUPPORTERS- GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT FOR COLLEGE AND SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS- COMPLETED PORTFOLIO AT GRADUATION TO ASSIST WITH COLLEGE APPLICATIONS AND SCHOLARSHIPS- BUSINESS PLAN DEVELOPMENT FOR ENTREPRENEURIAL ENDEAVORS OR BUSINESS EMPLOYMENT- BROAD "LIFE" PREPARATION SKILLSTHE JA ACADEMY HAS PROVEN TO BE AN EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL MODEL FOR EDUCATION WHERE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT OCCURS EVERY DAY: - THE JA ACADEMY CLASS OF 2020 HAD 78 STUDENTS AND 100% GRADUATION;- 67 OF THE 78 GRADUATES WERE ACCEPTED TO COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES OR MILITARY SERVICE AT THE TIME OF GRADUATION;- THE GRADUATES ACCEPTED INTO COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES RECEIVED OVER $4.9 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS;- AND, OF THE OAK RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATING CLASS OF 2020, MORE THAN 600 STUDENTS, ELEVEN OF THE TOP TWENTY GRADUATES ATTENDED THE JA ACADEMY, INCLUDING THE VALEDICTORIAN.SINCE ITS INCEPTION, THE JA ACADEMY HAS PROUDLY FEATURED 464 GRADUATES WITH AN ACCEPTANCE RATE OF 87.5% TO COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES OR MILITARY SERVICE. THESE GRADUATES INCLUDE 3 VALEDICTORIANS, 3 SALUTATORIANS, 6 SUPER SCHOLARS, AND AN ANNUAL AVERAGE OF 14 OF THE TOP 20 GRADUATES AT OAK RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL.THE JA ACADEMY'S HIGH LEVEL OF STUDENT ACCOMPLISHMENT WAS RECOGNIZED BY JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT'S NATIONAL ORGANIZATION, AND THE ACADEMY BECAME THE FOUNDATION FOR A NATIONAL SCHOOL MODEL. 3DE BY JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT IS THE NEXT PHASE OF JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT'S VISION TO RE-ENGINEER EDUCATION TO BETTER REFLECT THE REAL WORLD AND PREPARE STUDENTS FOR LIFE BEYOND THE CLASSROOM. JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF CENTRAL FLORIDA AND ITS ACADEMY WORKED WITH 3DE TO EXPAND THIS MODEL TO OSCEOLA HIGH SCHOOL IN THE 2019/20 SCHOOL YEAR WITH PLANS UNDERWAY TO OPEN ADDITIONAL 3DE BY JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT SCHOOLS IN FLORIDA OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL YEARS.
THIRD ACCOMPLISHMENT:JA INSPIRE IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF A PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES PRACTICAL INFORMATION ABOUT PREPARING STUDENTS FOR LIFE BEYOND THE CLASSROOM. JA INSPIRE IS BOTH CLASSROOM AND EVENT-BASED AND CONSISTS OF THREE SEGMENTS: 1) IN-CLASS SESSIONS PRESENTED BY THE CLASSROOM TEACHER; 2) THE HANDS-ON JA INSPIRE EXPO; AND 3) AN IN-CLASS DEBRIEF. DURING THE JA INSPIRE EXPO, STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES, OFTEN USING EQUIPMENT OR TOOLS USED WITHIN THAT PROFESSION. THE MULTI-HOUR EXPERIENCE IS CONFIGURABLE TO ALIGN WITH LOCAL INDUSTRY AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES SPECIFIC TO REGIONS IN CENTRAL FLORIDA. JA INSPIRE BRINGS TOGETHER THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY AND LOCAL SCHOOLS AND IS DESIGNED TO INTRODUCE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS TO THEIR FUTURES: HIGH SCHOOL, COLLEGE AND BEYOND. LAUNCHED IN MAY 2018 BY JACF AS THE FIRST EVENT OF ITS KIND ANYWHERE IN FLORIDA, THE INAUGURAL JA INSPIRE PROGRAM IMPACTED NEARLY 3,000 8TH GRADERS FROM ALL 14 SCHOOL DISTRICT OF OSCEOLA (SDOC) PUBLIC SCHOOLS. STUDENTS VISITED THE OSCEOLA HERITAGE PARK AND TOURED 47,000 SQUARE FEET OF INTERACTIVE, HANDS-ON CAREER STATIONS ORGANIZED BY HIGH WAGE/HIGH GROWTH INDUSTRIES SPECIFIC TO THE AREA. JACF DELIVERED THE THIRD JA INSPIRE OSCEOLA PROGRAM ON JANUARY 23, 2020, WHICH FEATURED 260 CAREER AND EDUCATION MENTORS STAFFING 58 CAREER AND EDUCATION STATIONS. OVER 4,000 8TH GRADERS PARTICIPATED THROUGH CLASSROOM PROGRAMMING AND THE SUBSEQUENT JA INSPIRE EXPERIENCE AT THE SAME EVENT CENTER. CLASSROOM PRE-WORK WAS PROVIDED THROUGH JA INSPIRE STUDENT WORKBOOKS AND JA INSPIRE TEACHER GUIDES ALIGNED WITH GRADES 6-8 FLORIDA STANDARDS FOR CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE) COURSES TO ENSURE STANDARDS-BASED INSTRUCTION AS EXPECTED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, WHICH REPRESENTED MORE THAN 31,000 HOURS OF STUDENT INSTRUCTION. THE ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO THEIR FUTURE CAREER PATHWAYS AND FURTHER DEVELOP THE FUTURE TALENT PIPELINE OF CENTRAL FLORIDA. DUE TO LIMITED FACE-TO-FACE ACTIVITY WITH STUDENTS THIS SCHOOL YEAR, A NEW JA INSPIRE VIRTUAL IS BEING PLANNED FOR SPRING 2021. THROUGH AN INNOVATIVE VIRTUAL PLATFORM, WE ANTICIPATE EXPANSION OF THE PROGRAM TO INCLUDE STUDENTS FROM ADDITIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS AS WELL AS PRIVATE/CHARTER SCHOOLS IN CENTRAL FLORIDA. JA INSPIRE AIMS TO PROVIDE POWERFUL WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE SUBSTANTIAL, MEASURED BOTH IN THE NUMBER OF COMMUNITY PARTNERS AND STUDENT IMPACT. STUDENTS WILL PARTICIPATE IN CLASSROOM OR ONLINE CURRICULUM CREATED SPECIFICALLY TO REFLECT CENTRAL FLORIDA'S UNIQUE INDUSTRY NEEDS FOR SKILLED, TRAINED AND EDUCATED EMPLOYEES BEFORE AND AFTER THE EVENT.
