At Lift Orlando, business leaders are partnering with residents to accelerate community transformation by achieving the shared goals of mixed-income housing, cradle to career

Education LIFT Orlando partners with educational organizations in the communities of West Lakes to create a seamless cradle to career educational pipeline. LIFT supports the educational pipeline by serving as a Community Quarterback; engaging community members and coordinating alignment between the community, corporations and best in class not-for-profits, while measuring and evaluating progress toward our shared goals. LIFT supported West Lakes schools by hosting Collective Impact meetings, meetings with school administrators, and serving on the School Advisory Council. LIFT also provided grants for classroom resources, advancing the recruitment of qualified staff, and facilitating donors and relationships that support teacher appreciation, professional development and the enhancement of academic programs throughout the cradle to career educational pipeline. LIFT continued its support of the future West Lakes Early Learning Center by participating in fundraising, community engagement and programmatic partner coordination. LIFT continued to invest in the West Lakes MVP Families program, which supports parents and children as they work towards their academic and life goals. MVP Families connects families to educational opportunities and economic mobility opportunities that they would not otherwise have the opportunity to access and supports parents as they assist their children in meeting developmental milestones.

ECONOMIC VIABILITY LIFT continued to work on small business engagement, networking events and marketing, business development services as well as the research, data and planning to support this work. Small Business Engagement efforts included the launching of the West Lakes Business District initiative. Eighty businesses in this LMI (plus an additional 115 Orlando area businesses) were served through our Business Breakfasts and Lunch & Learns strengthening social capital, facilitating opportunities and increasing business acumen. These events included speakers from successful local businesses or entrepreneurs who shared their story and business advice. The West Lakes Newsletter, with its 1,300 print and 2,100 email subscribers, continued to serve as a great tool for promoting local businesses through advertising and special features and was distributed six times in 2019. For individuals, The Financial Well-being Center was established in late 2018 and provides those living in the zip code of 32805 with free financial workshops, one-on-one financial coaching, and job placement services. In 2019, 47 individuals engaged in financial coaching and 23 individuals reached their financial goals and completed coaching (others continued the coaching into the following year). 78 individuals also participated in financial workshops that cover topics such as budgeting, savings, investment, taxes, and homeownership. More than 30 individuals were connected to jobs or job training programs and more than 130 individuals received regular financial information via email. The Financial Well-being Center also hosted VITA, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, and served 115 individuals in helping them complete and file their income taxes for free. Also, as part of LIFTs Economic Viability strategy, there was a large focus on ensuring local, minority business participation in all of the development projects LIFT coordinated, this included partnering to host job fairs and facilitating outreach to local minority contractors and employees.

Community QB The role of the Community Quarterback (CQ) is to continue to refine the vision for the community in partnership with the residents, secure financial resources and ensure continuous communication and align partners, which is achieved via robust evaluation. The Community Quarterback must also build strong partnerships with public and private stakeholders and investors including local housing authorities and school boards, developers, non-profits, philanthropic individuals and organizations, and elected officials. LIFT Orlando continued and strengthened its role as Community Quarterback by developing/revising Memorandums of Understanding with all partners, increasing communication, and advocating for continued investment and progress for the programs and projects within the community. As a result of LIFT's role, progress was made on multiple renovation and construction projects including the groundbreaking of the Lake Lorna Doone Park renovation, construction completion of the West Lakes Early Learning Center, construction began on the Pendana Senior Residences, and demolition was completed at the site of the future Health & Wellness Center. complete and file their income taxes for free.
