THE MISSION OF THE NATIONAL KIDNEY FOUNDATION OF FLORIDA IS TO PREVENT KIDNEY AND URINARY TRACT DISEASES, IMPROVE THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF PATIENTS AND FAMILIES AFFECTED BY THESE DISEASES AND INCREASE THE AVAILABILITY OF ALL ORGANS FOR TRANSPLANTATION.
PATIENT SERVICES-LOW INCOME AND OTHER KIDNEY PATIENTS RECEIVE DRUGS, TRANSPORTATION, SEMINARS, RETREATS AND OTHER KIDNEY DISEASE RELATED SERVICES. THROUGH THE DIRECT AID PROGRAM, THE NATIONAL KIDNEY FOUNDATION OF FLORIDA PROVIDED $166,915 IN DIRECT FINANCIAL AID TO PATIENTS FOR GROCERIES, GAS, TRANSPORTATION, UTILITIES, AND RENT IN FISCAL YEAR 2020. THIS AID WAS DISTRIBUTED TO 1,738 INDIVIDUALS OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR. THE HAWTHORNE FUND-DESIGNED TO ASSIST KIDNEY TRANSPLANT RECIPIENTS, WHO MEET STATED CRITERIA, WITH THE COST OF THEIR POST-TRANSPLANT MEDICATIONS, INCLUDING IMMUNOSUPPRESSANT AND PROPHYLAXIS DRUGS. IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, THE NKFF DISTRIBUTED NEARLY $205,000 TO OVER 125 INDIVIDUAL PATIENTS FOR ASSISTANCE.PUBLIC EDUCATION-LITERATURE AND SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC OF THE NEEDS OF KIDNEY PATIENTS AND TO TEACH ABOUT THE EARLY DETECTION OF THE DISEASE.
PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH-SEMINARS, LITERATURE AND RESEARCH FUNDING TO HEALTHCARE PERSONNEL TO EDUCATE THEM IN TREATMENT OF KIDNEY DISEASE.
COMMUNITY SERVICES - THE FLORIDA KIDNEY SCREENING PROGRAM PROVIDES FREE SCREENINGS FOR KIDNEY DISEASE, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND DIABETES FOR THOSE MOST AT-RISK OF DEVELOPING KIDNEY DISEASE. NKFF HAS SCREENED THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THIS PROGRAM, MAKING IT A FORERUNNER OF EARLY DETECTION, DIAGNOSIS, AND TREATMENT REFERRAL FOR KIDNEY DISEASE. DURING THE LAST FISCAL YEAR, THE NKFF SCREENED 283 PARTICIPANTS, FINDING 21 ABNORMAL RESULTS. ADDITIONALLY, STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATED IN OVER 22 HEALTH FAIRS AROUND THE STATE.
