THE PARTNER AGENCIES PROVIDE THE FOOD TO PEOPLE IN NEED AT NO COST. 58,213,221 POUNDS OF FOOD WERE DISTRIBUTED WHICH PROVIDED APPROXIMATELY 38,808,814 MEALS.
COMMUNITY KITCHEN: THE SECOND HARVEST COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROVIDES A 16-WEEK CULINARY TRAINING PROGRAM FOCUSED ON FOOD SERVICE-BASED TECHNICAL, LIFE, AND EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS TRAINING FOR ADULTS. THE PROGRAM GRADUATES APPROXIMATELY 55 CENTRAL FLORIDA ADULTS ANNUALLY. THE COMMUNITY KITCHEN ALSO PROVIDES FULL-SERVICE CATERING TO GENERATE REVENUE THAT SUPPORTS THE CULINARY PROGRAM, ALLOWING STUDENTS TO ATTEND CLASSES AT NO COST TO THEM. ADDITIONALLY, THE COMMUNITY KITCHEN PREPARED AND DELIVERED 913,337 AFTER SCHOOL AND SUMMER MEALS TO QUALIFIED CHILDREN AT COMMUNITY CENTERS THROUGHOUT THE CENTRAL FLORIDA AREA. IT ALSO MANAGES A RETAIL FOOD PRODUCT LINE WHICH OFFERS HEALTHY SOUP, HONEY, COOKIES AND LUNCHES THAT ARE SOLD ONLINE AND AT BOUTIQUE SHOPS AND OTHER RETAIL OUTLETS. PROCEEDS HELP SUPPORT THE CULINARY PROGRAM.
SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM: PROVIDES HEALTHY BREAKFASTS, LUNCHES, AND SNACKS TO CHILDREN IN LOW-INCOME AREAS DURING SUMMER RECESS WHEN SCHOOL CAFTERIAS ARE CLOSED. LAST YEAR 674,834 MEALS WERE DISTRIBUTED THROUGH THIS PROGRAM AT 147 SITES IN 6 COUNTIES. MORE THAN 93% OF SUMMER MEALS SERVED WERE PRODUCED BY OUR COMMUNITY KITCHEN THIS LAST YEAR.
