To protect the economic well being of agricultural producers, educate the community for a better understanding of agriculture & improve the quality of life in Hillsborough Co.
We participated in the State Fair where attendees experienced the Ag Venture format. The format consisted of hands-on learning stations that taught the importance of Florida agriculture and helped develop an understanding and appreciation of where our food comes from. This year approximately 60,000 fair attendees experienced the various learning station. Volunteers were available to answer questions and educate the public on agriculture in our community.
We participated in the Ag-Venture field trip that is a 'hands on' experience designed to teach 3rd graders in Hillsborough County the importance of agriculture. The program helps develop an understanding and appreciation of where their food comes from and the impact of agriculture in their everyday lives. Students visited various stations that included citrus, ornamental horticulture, poulty, beef, and recycling.
Over the last sixteen years, in conjunction with ESE teachers in Hillsborough county, we have continued to facilitate an Ag-Abilities program designed to give students with disabilities the opportunity to participate in regular agriculture competitions. This year students participated in plant identification, tractor driving, nutrition, and breed identification. We have distributed the program nationwide to teachers looking for alternative competitions for ESE students.
