Organizations Filed Purposes: The Organization sponsors one week educational boat tours in southeast Alaska, home to the Tongass National Forest, which at 16,500,000 acres (25,800 square miles) the nation's largest, and the earth's last, substantially intact temperate rain forest. Our purpose is to educate people on the importance of conserving the land and marine resources. We bring to our patron's attention the effects that warming trends are having on marine life and especially the glaciers that are thinning and retreating at an increasing rate. We work and consult with local and national conservation and environmental organizations on issues dealing with the Tongass. Also, we are very active with agencies and organizations that deal with fisheries issues. Aside from the oil industry, the fishing industry is the largest private employer in Alaska, and the conservation of southeast Alaska's forest and waters (salt and fresh) are vital to it's existence.

The Organization sponsors boat tours in southeast Alaska to educate people on the importance to conserve our land and marine resources.

Each of our vessels carries trained naturalists specializing not only in flora and fauna, but fisheries expertise as well. Science says that temperate rainforests are more biologically diverse than tropical forests. Although many of Tongass' 8 to 10 foot diameter, 1,000 year-old trees have been cut, many still remain. Our lectures stress the importance of preserving wildlife habitat, for bears, eagles, deer, wolves and a myraid of other species, and the watersheds in that habitat which are home to six species of salmon and other fishes. We inform our customers about the effects that warming trends are having on marine life (whales, sea lions, otters, shellfish, orcas, et al.) and especially the glaciers that are quickly thinning and retreating. We print and send to our membership, a semi-annual newsletter to keep them informed on Tongass forest conservation issues. We work and consult with local and national organizations on issues dealing with the Tongass and conservation issues, including the US Forest Service. We participate in conferences and submit comments to many agencies and organizations dealing with fisheries issues. We stress the need to protect and conserve for future generations, southeast Alaska's forest, waters and its vital fishing industry. We are members of and work with The Alaska Trollers Association, Southeast Alaska Seiners Association, and United Fishermen of Alaska. We also work with the International Pacific Halibut Commission, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Marine Fisheries Service, Alaska Department of Game, and the Northern Pacific Fisheries Management Council.
