THE MISSION OF CENTER FOR ARCHITECTURE SARASOTA IS TO FOSTER DIALOGUE AND EDUCATION FOR ALL THOSE INTERESTED IN THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT. THE CENTER WILL CALL TO ACTION RESOURCES THAT ADVOCATE FOR THE PRESERVATION OF OUR RICH AND DIVERSE ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE AND ENCOURAGE AND PROMOTE INNOVATIVE NEW DESIGN AND RESILIENT URBAN PLANNING.
CENTER FOR ARCHITECTURE SARASOTA WORKS TO CALL TO ACTION RESOURCES THAT PROMOTE AND EDUCATE SARASOTA AND ITS VISITORS TO THE LEGACY OF THE FOUNDING ARCHITECTS OF THE SARASOTA SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE AND THE HISTORY OF THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT.CENTER FOR ARCHITECTURE STRIVES TO PRESERVE THE HISTORY OF INNOVATIVE ARCHITECTURE IN SARASOTA WHILE HELPING TO SHAPE THE FUTURE OF THE PROFESSION THROUGH EDUCATION.
CENTER FOR ARCHITECTURE SARASOTA, INC. IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION FORMED AS PART OF A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA (UF) SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE. THIS COLLABORATION PROVIDES A PLACE FOR EDUCATION, RESEARCH AND INNOVATION RELATED TO ARCHITECTURE. THE CENTER INCLUDES EXHIBIT SPACE AND A LECTURE HALL PROVIDING A VENUE FOR PROFESSIONAL AND PUBLIC PROGRAMS THAT FOSTER CREATIVITY, CREATE AWARENESS AND ADVANCE EXCELLENCE IN ARCHITECTURE, DESIGN AND URBAN PLANNING.THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES A VARIETY OF PROGRAMMING THAT IS AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC. THE GALLERY SPACE HOUSES THREE TO FOUR EXHIBITS EACH YEAR OF VARYING SUBJECTS RELATING TO ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN. ALL EXHIBITS ARE FREE TO THE PUBLIC. THE CENTER ALSO PROVIDES PROGRAMMING RELEVANT TO THE EXHIBIT ON DISPLAY AT THE TIME. HISTORICAL WALKING TOURS AND TROLLEY TOURS ARE VERY POPULAR WITH THE PUBLIC AND PROVIDE INFORMATION WITH RESPECT TO THE RICH ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY OF THE SARASOTA AREA.CENTER FOR ARCHITECTURE AND ITS PARTNERS ACQUIRED THE IDEAL BUILDING IN THE IDEAL LOCATION TO HOUSE BOTH THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA AND CENTER FOR ARCHITECTURE PROGRAMS. LOCATED IN THE HEART OF DOWNTOWN SARASOTA, THE SCOTT BUILDING, NOW KNOWN AS THE MCCULLOCH PAVILION, WAS DESIGNED IN 1960 BY AWARD-WINNING AND NATIONALLY-RECOGNIZED ARCHITECTS WILLIAM RUPP AND JOSEPH FARRELL. THEIR LEGACIES AS IMPORTANT MASTERS IN THE SARASOTA SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE REMAIN PRESERVED IN THIS BUILDING, ONE OF THE LAST REMAINING COMMERCIAL OR PUBLIC PROJECTS IN SARASOTA DESIGNED BY EITHER ARCHITECT.
