Organizations Filed Purposes: UNIDOSNOWS MISSION IS TO ELEVATE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE GROWING HISPANIC/LATINO COMMUNITY IN MANATEE AND SARASOTA COUNTIES THROUGH EDUCATION, INTEGRATION, AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT.

AS A RESULT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND RELATED IMPACT ON EMPLOYMENT IN THE SARASOTA AND MANATEE COUNTIES FLORIDA LATINO COMMUNITY, UNIDOSNOW! (UNI) INITIATED A PROGRAM TO SEEK FINANCIAL RESOURCES TO FUND ECONOMIC ASSISTANCE FOR PAYMENT OF RENT AND UTILIES FOR QUALIFIED INDIVUDALS AND FAMILIES. DURING 2020, MORE THAN $550,000 OF FUNDS WERE RAISED WITH RELATED GRANTS MADE FOR THOSE QUALIFIED ALONG WITH RELATED EXPENSES TOTALING IN EXCESS OF $510,000. GRANT PAYMENTS WERE MADE DIRECTLY TO LANDLORDS AND UTILITY PROVIDERS. AS OF DECEMBER 31, 2020, $41,518 OF RESTRICTED FUNDS REMAINED TO BE UTILIZED BY THAT PROGRAM IN 2021.

THE FUTURE LEADERS ACADEMY (FLA) IS A YEAR-ROUND PROGRAM OFFERED PRIMARILY TO LOW-INCOME, FIRST GENERATION LATINX HIGH SCHOOL, MIDDLE SCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES IN SARASOTA AND MANATEE COUNTIES. THE FLA PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PROVIDES COLLEGE PREPARATION FOR STUDENTS INTERESTED IN ATTENDING 4-YEAR AND 2-YEAR COLLEGE OR PURSUING A POST-SECONDARY PATH THAT INCLUDES A HIGH-QUALITY CERTIFICATION OR TECHNICAL CAREER. IN ADDITION TO LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE, STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES LEARN ABOUT COLLEGE SELECTION, CAREER READINESS, ACT/SAT PREPARATION, ESSAY WRITING, RESUME BUILDING, SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS, AND RECEIVE FAFSA ASSISTANCE AND INVIDIUAL MENTORING. MIDDLE AND SECONDARY STUDENTS ARE PRESENTED WITH VARIOUS OPTIONS TO EXPERIENCE FIRST-HAND CAREERS IN THE SCIENCES, ARTS, AND TECHNOLOGY. STUDENTS TAKE ON LEADERHSHIP ROLES

OUR PARENT LEADERSHIP PROGRAM EMPOWERS PARENTS WITH LIFE SKILLS, ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS, AND ACCESS TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES WITH THE GOAL TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT THEIR CHILDRENS EDUCATION. THEY LEARN TO UNDERSTAND AND NAVIGATE THE EDUCATION SYSTEM AND ADVOCATE FOR THEIR CHILDREN INCREASING THEIR PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT,HELPING INCREASE THEIR CHILDRENS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AND SCHOOL ATTENDANCE. THIS PROGRAM IS OFFERED IN SARASOTA AND MANATEE COUNTIES. DURING THE PANDEMIC PARENTS DEMONSTRATED THEIR LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND CREATED SOCIAL CAPITAL BY HELPING EACH OTHER WITH TRANSPORTION, FOOD ACCESS AND COMMUNITY RESOURCES. FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME, PARENTS WERE TRAINED AS COACHES FOR THE FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION IN SOUTH WEST FLORIDA, EARNING A TEAM SPECIAL AWARD FROM THE JUDGES. BECAUSE OF THESE OPPORTUNITIES MANY PARENTS HAVE GONE BACK TO SCHOOL AND IMPROVED THEIR EMPLOYMENT CHANCES.
