Organizations Filed Purposes:
Amazing women perform at the top levels of skydiving in all disciplines. However, our numbers are small: only 13% of USPA members are women, and only 10.9% of new A-licenses in 2015 were issued to women. We believe that having more women instructors, role models, and mentors at dropzones around the country is critical to raising the number of women in our sport. To make this happen, the Women's Skydiving Network provides women with opportunities for training, networking, and fellowship throughout their skydiving careers. The WSN was started by Christy Frikken and JaNette Lefkowitz in 2016. Since then, we have grown to become a network of over 3,000 women. Our members come from all over the world and include women of all experience levels, from students to World Champions. We want all women who jump to know that they are welcome in the WSN. We invite all jumpers to work with us to achieve our goal of promoting women in skydiving.
Project19. In 1920, women in the US were guaranteed the right to vote following the ratification of Amendment 19 to the US Constitution. Countless women risked everything to encourage and influence the women's suffrage movement. Through the sport of skydiving our community will celebrate and honor these courageous women by bravely showing the world what we do. Welcome to Project19. The Women's Skydiving Network will fully sponsor attempts to build a 100-way Women's Vertical World Record. The WSN will cover the costs of participant registration, record jumps, and support team jumps. This is the first time in history that a 100-way world record attempt will be fully sponsored. The vertical world record attempt was originally scheduled for July 4 to 11, 2020 at Skydive Chicago in Ottawa, IL. It was delayed due to Covid 19 and will take place after the Covid restrictions are lifted. Many will be coming from overseas and so the international travel has to be cleared for 6 months before it will be scheduled. For now, the money will sit in an interest bearing CD awaiting the event to take place.
