Organizations Filed Purposes:
To identify and solve member issues while promoting moral, economic, educational and social values. Acting as the 'voice of agriculture.'
Highlands County Farm Bureau participated in the three day, Ag Venture program. Students learned about the many by-products of a beef cow. They were also shown the different types of citrus and learned how vegetables get from the farm to the grocery store. More than 1400 students, parents, and teachers attended this event. By providing this opportunity we are able to raise awareness and appreciation for agriculture.
We support agriculture education in our local schools. A meeting was held to discuss the needs for each agriculture program. We disseminated the information to our members and other agricultural organizations. Agriculture is a rapidly growing and evolving industry. We continue to support our local ag teachers who help foster an appreciation of agriculture and bring awareness of the various scientific and technical careers in agriculture.
Highlands County Farm Bureau held its annual Speech Contest. Students are asked to research the topic and present their speech in front of industry professionals. This year's topic helped students make a direct correlation between agriculture and consumers. Often when agriculture is impacted, by a natural disaster there is a direct impact to the consumer.
