Organizations Filed Purposes:
Mission: Reinforce the power of live theater with productions that excite/challenge a diverse audience. Education: To create theatrical opportunities that foster creative expression, communication, and leadership skills focused on bringing performing arts to underserved populations.
Theatre Productions: Mainstage is American Stage's core programming with sessions consisting of 6 - 7 professional productions in our 182 seat Raymond James Theatre, approximately 25,000 attendees annually. In addition, American Stage in the Park features a full-scale musical produced outdoors for 4 - 5 weeks each spring. Attended by 12,000 - 16,000 Tampa Bay residents and visitors annually, it has become a community tradition for more than 30 years. Additionally, American Stage produces programming and performances featuring local artists in a variety of mediums, including cabaret and music performances, our 21st Century Voices New Play Festival, and performances from American Stage's active improv troupes. To make our programming as accessible as possible to as many in our community as possible, American Stage offers a number of ticket discounts for seniors, students, educators and military and a "pay what you can" night for each production. Our Next Generation initiative has made our mainstage productions free to teens and young adults under the age of 20.
Education: Our education and outreach department serves another 21,000 young people and adults annually through our school tour production, camps, classes, playwriting and drama clubs and student matinees; and outreach programs for persons with disabilities and at risk youth. At American Stage, we believe that every child deserves access to a quality arts education and we seek to serve schools and organizations free of charge through our teaching artist outreach and Write On! programs where access to the arts is limited. Many of these programs are held in schools with underserved youth where more than half the students qualify for th efree and reduced lunch programs. These programs serve to improve critical reading and writing skills in students, and to promote self-confidence, collaboration and empathy. American Stage's internship and apprenticeship programs provide immersive "on the job" training and experience for recent college graduates who are seeking a career in the arts. These education and outreach programs serve as an investment in the future of our community.
