THE VILLAGE SQUARE IS A NON-PARTISAN PUBLIC EDUCATIONAL FORUM ON MATTERS OF LOCAL,STATE, AND NATIONAL IMPORTANCE, IN A REVIVAL OF THE TOWN HALL FOR THE 21ST CENTURY. WE ARE DEDICATED TO BUILDING BRIDGES ACROSS SOCIETAL DIVISIONS AND GROWING CONSTRUCTIVE CIVIC DEBATE ON DIVISIVE ISSUES, AS WE RECALL THE HISTORY AND PRINCIPLES AT THE FOUNDATION OF OUR DEMOCRACY.
VILLAGE SQUARE HOSTS APPROXIMATELY 25 CIVIC EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO ENGAGE DIVERSE COMMUNITIES IN DISCUSSION ON IMPORTANT TOPICS IMPACTING THEIR FUTURE- GROWING LOCAL COMMUNITY CONNECTEDNESS ACROSS THE PARTISAN DIVIDE. SAMPLE PROGRAMS INCLUDE: DINNER AT THE SQUARE IS A BIPARTISAN EDUCATIONAL FORUM ON IMPORTANT CIVIC TOPICS, DRAWING BIG THINKERS FROM ACROSS THE AISLE. IT SERVES CLOSE TO 500 PEOPLE ANNUALLY ON SITE IN ADDITION TO ONLINE AND RADIO AUDIENCES. GOD SQUAD IS A SERIES OF PROGRAMS ENGAGING AROUND 1,000 LOCAL RESIDENTS ANNUALLY IN DYNAMIC CONVERSATION ACROSS DIFFERENCES IN THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES OF THE DAY. ADDITIONAL EVENTS INCLUDE THE LOCAL COLOR/RACE SERIES, WHICH FOCUSES ON TOPICS OF RACE AND CULTURE IN THE COMMUNITY; AND OUR TOWN SERIES, WHICH MORE BROADLY EXAMINES ISSUES AFFECTING THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE. EACH DRAWS IN THOUSANDS OF CITIZENS ANNUALLY. OUR COLLEGE SERIES RESPECT+REBELLION ENGAGES STUDENTS ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES ACROSS AMERICA. OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST 18 MONTHS, THE ORGANIZATION HAS CHANGED ITS METHOD OF ACCOUNTING FROM CASH TO ACCRUAL, AND CHANGED ITS TAX YEAR FROM CALENDAR TO FISCAL. THIS HAS RESULTED IN A YEAR OF HIGHER EXPENSES FINISHING OFF GRANTS THAT HAD REVENUES SUBSTANTIALLY RECOGNIZED IN PRIOR YEARS. THE RESULT IS AN ARTIFICIALLY INCREASED NET DEFICIT, WHICH IS REALLY THE CULMINATION OF SEVERAL LARGE MULTI-YEAR GRANTS COMING TO CONCLUSION.
PROGRAMMING IS OFFERED AT NO CHARGE TO THOUSANDS OF CITIZENS ANNUALLY BOTH IN OUR COMMUNITY AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY ON IMPORTANT CIVIC TOPICS. AMONG THEM, THE VILLAGE SQUARE WORKS WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENT ON MAJOR LARGE CITIZEN GATHERINGS THAT FOCUS ON BUILDING COMMUNITY AND BRIDGING DIVIDES ACROSS DIFFERENCES IN DEMOGRAPHICS, BACKGROUND AND IDEOLOGY. ADDITIONALLY, VILLAGE SQUARE SEEKS TO MODEL LOCAL SUCCESS TO COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY, AND OFFERS MANAGEMENT/CONSULTING AND FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITIES TO SPREAD THE REACH OF THE ORGANIZATION. WE ALSO RECEIVE PERIODIC GRANTS AND PASS THROUGH FUNDS FOR VARIOUS PROJECTS LOCALLY AND IN OTHER COMMUNITIES.
THE KCCI PROJECT BRINGS TOGETHER A DIVERSE GROUP OF COMMUNITY CATALYSTS WHO WORK TOGETHER - AS A TEAM ACROSS THEIR DIFFERENCES - ON PROJECTS TO IMPROVE THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. THIS PROJECT CREATES THE CONDITIONS THAT HEAL DIVISIONS INSIDE THE COMMUNITY AND OFFERS A MODEL FOR OTHER COMMUNITIES TO FOLLOW.
