Art2Action, Inc. creates, develops, produces and presents original devised theater work, interdisciplinary performances, performative acts and progressive cultural organizing. We support women artists, artists of color, queer or trans-identified artists, and creative allies. We are dedicated to cultural equity and innovation, artistic quality and community value, performativity and impact.
In partnership with Pangea World Theatre, Art2Action co-organizes the National Institute for Directing & Ensemble Creation. In 2018, we held a summer Institute in Minneapolis, including a First Peoples Pre-Conference for Native American Artists, and a Professional Peer Exchange and Mentorship Institute. Pangea World Theatre received grants for this project, and subcontracted Art2Action as a partner.
In 2018, Art2Action supported the development of three new original works by artists of color, with co-commissioning and residency support from the National Performance Network (NPN) and Arizona Sate University/ASU Gammage, and community engagement support from the Alternate ROOTS "Partners in Action." We hosted new works development including: "Women at Waters Edge," a 2-week residency for Celeste Miller and Mujeres en Ritual Danza-Teatro; Script development for "Five Black Women" by Andresia Moseley, at ASU Gammage; and hosting development for "AMAL" by The Combat Hippies.
One of our program areas is to provide events for military veterans, including arts workshops for veterans in recovery in partnership with the VA, and a monthly Veterans Community Open Mic. In 2018, we presented an evening of poetry readings by veterans as part of the AWP conference, in partnership with Warrior Writers; developed an exhibit on Military artists, titled "Kaleidoscope," in partnership with the University of Tampa Scarfone/Hartley Gallery, featuring Digital Stories with veterans facilitated by The Carpetbag Theatre; and re-mounted a veteran theatre performance titled "Chrysalis." We also completed a pilot study on Veteran Arts with a team of VA and USF researchers.
