THE 2014 ASSOCIATION FOR THE SOCIOLOGY OF RELIGION (ASR) ANNUAL MEETING HELD IN SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, AUGUST 12-18, ON THE THEME OF RELIGION AS A SOCIAL FORCE INCLUDED 49 PANEL SESSIONS DURING WHICH 135 ACADEMIC PAPERS WERE PRESENTED, THE PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS BY CHRIS ELLISON, THE 2014 PAUL HANLY FURFEY LECTURE AND RECEPTIONS. THE ASR EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MET TWICE DURING THIS MEETING WHICH IS THE NORMAL EXPECTATION. THE ASR ANNUAL MEETING IS ALWAYS HELD IN CONJUCTION WITH THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE AMERICAN SOCIOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION, IN THE SAME CITY. TWO OF THE ASR PANEL SESSIONS DURING ITS PROGRAM WERE CO-SPONSPRED WITH THE AMERICAN SOCIOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION.

PUBLICATION OF: (1) VOLUME 75 OF THE QUARTERLY ACADEMIC JOURNAL SOCIOLOGY OF RELIGION IN COOPERATION WITH OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS, UNDER THE EDITORSHIP OF GERARDO MARTI. RECEIPT OF THE JOURNAL IS INCLUDED AS A PRIVILEGE OF MEMBERSHIP AND IS SENT TO ALL MEMBERS WITHOUT CHARGE. (2) VOLUME 24 OF THE RELIGION AND THE SOCIAL ORDER EDITED VOLUMES SERIES, UNDER THE EDITORSHIP OF WILLIAM H. SWATOS BY BRILL. VOLUMES IN THIS SERIES ARE AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS AT A DEEP DISCOUNT FROM THEIR RETAIL PRICE. SOCIOLOGY OF RELEGION CONTAINS ORIGINAL RESEARCH ARTICLES, BOOK REVIEWS, AND ASR NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS WHICH CONTAINS INFORMATIONAL MATERIAL AS APPROPRIATE TO EACH QUARTER. THIS IS WRITTEN BY THE EXECUTIVE OFFICER.

JOSEPH H. FICHTER RESEARCH GRANTS IN RELIGIOUS RESEARCH. COMPETITIVE GRANTS AVAILABLE TO ASR MEMBERS FOR ACADEMIC RESEARCH ON A REFEREED APPLICATION BASIS, AWARDED ANNUALLY. APPLICANTS HAVE APPROXIMATELY 18 MONTHS TO COMPLETE THEIR PROJECTS AND ARE EXPECTED TO SUBMIT A WRITTEN SUMMARY OF THEIR WORK AND/OR PUBLICATIONS AS A RESULT OF THEIR WORK. APPLICANTS WHOSE INSTITUTIONS AGREE TO ADMINISTER THE AWARD ON THE AWARDEE'S BEHALF MUST SUBMIT A STATEMENT THAT NO OVERHEAD CHARGES WILL BE APPLIED AND A SUMMARY OF EXPENDITURES UPON COMPLETION OF THE WORK. UNUSED FUNDS MUST BE RETURNED TO THE ASR.
