(THE "COUNCIL") PROVIDES ON-GOING ASSISTANCE TO SCHOOL DISTRICTS STATEWIDE IN DEVELOPING STANDARDS AND INTEGRATING FREE ENTERPRISE, ENTREPRENEURSHIP, BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC EDUCATION AND PERSONAL FINANCIAL LITERACY INTO DISTRICT PROGRAMMING, AS WELL AS ON-GOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS FOR TEACHERS GEOGRAPHICALLY REMOTE FROM CENTERS FOR ECONOMIC EDUCATION; DEVELOP AND DISTRIBUTE CURRICULUM MATERIALS; PROVIDE APPLIED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH STUDENT CHALLENGES IN ECONOMICS AND PERSONAL FINANCE.
GOVERNOR'S AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING ECONOMICS - THE COUNCIL RECOGNIZES OUTSTANDING EDUCATORS OF GRADES K-12 FOR THEIR INNOVATIONS IN TEACHING ECONOMICS, FREE ENTERPRISE, AND FINANCIAL LITERACY. OPEN TO K-12 EDUCATORS THROUGHOUT THE STATE, THE GOVERNOR'S AWARDS RECOGNIZES FLORIDA EDUCATORS FOR BEST PRACTICES IN TEACHING ECONOMICS, FREE ENTERPRISE AND PERSONAL FINANCE. THIS PRESTIGIOUS EVENT ALLOWS THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY TO EXPRESS THEIR APPRECIATION FOR EDUCATORS WHO WORK TIRELESSLY TO TEACH THE VALUES AND PRINCIPLES OF OUR FREE MARKET ECONOMY TO STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE STATE.
FINANCIAL FREEDOM IS A COMPREHENSIVE CURRICULUM IN PERSONAL FINANCE DEVELOPED BY THE COUNCIL AND DISTRIBUTED TO 20,000-25,000 STUDENTS EACH YEAR, WITHOUT COST TO TEACHERS OR SCHOOL DISTRICTS. FINANCIAL FREEDOM STRENGTHENS MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS' FINANCIAL LITERACY KNOWLEDGE BY INTRODUCING THE CRITICAL CONCEPTS OF EARNING INCOME, BUYING GOODS AND SERVICES, SAVING, USING CREDIT, FINANCIAL INVESTING AND PROTECTING AND INSURING. FINANCIAL FREEDOM CAN BE USED AS A STAND-ALONE TEXT IN A FINANCIAL LITERACY CLASS, OR AS A SUPPLEMENT TO ANY FINANCIAL COURSE OR TRAINING.
