THE LIFELINK LEGACY FUND SUPPORTS THE LIFELINK FOUNDATION MISSION BY PROVIDING HOPE TO THOSE IN NEED OF SURGICAL, MEDICAL, AND TRANSPLANTATION THERAPY.
PROVIDING THE GIFTS OF HOPE AND LIFE TO PATIENTS FACING END-STAGE ORGAN DISEASE AND POTENTIALLY LIFE-SAVING TRANSPLANTS THROUGH SUPPORT OF THE LIFELINK FOUNDATION, WHICH PROVIDES MEDICAL CARE FOR UNFUNDED PATIENTS IN NEED.
LIFELINK LEGACY FUND IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION SUPPORTING THE ORGANIZATION OF LIFELINK FOUNDATION THAT PROVIDES FUNDING TO FURTHER THE MISSION OF SAVING LIVES THROUGH ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION AND TRANSPLANTATION. AID FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, MEDICAL STUDENT RESEARCH/INTERN PROGRAMS AND PRE-AND POST-ORGAN TRANSPLANT PATIENTS IN FINANCIAL NEED ARE JUST A FEW OF THE LIFELINK LEGACY FUND IMPACTIVE INITIATIVES LED THIS PAST YEAR. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)PATIENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS INCLUDED:TO DATE, 26 PEOPLE HAVE RECEIVED A LIFESAVING ORGAN TRANSPLANT THANKS TO FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE RECEIVED FROM THE LIFELINK LEGACY FUND "PLEDGE PROGRAM." OF THOSE, 21 PLEDGES HAVE BEEN FULFILLED AND FIVE TRANSPLANTED PATIENTS ARE STILL ACCESSING THEIR PLEDGE FUNDS. TEN PATIENTS ARE ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM AND AWAITING TRANSPLANT. THIS PROGRAM HELPS PATIENTS MEET NECESSARY FUNDING REQUIREMENTS FOR PLACEMENT ON THE NATIONAL ORGAN TRANSPLANT WAITING LIST. LAST YEAR, LIFELINK LEGACY FUND AWARDED NUMEROUS RESEARCH AND COMMUNITY GRANTS, INCLUDING FOR A CLINICAL RESEARCH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM AIMED AT PROVIDING PRE-MEDICINE COLLEGE STUDENTS A HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE WORKING DIRECTLY WITH TRANSPLANT PHYSICIANS IN A HOSPITAL SETTING. THE LIFELINK LEGACY FUND ALSO PROVIDED SIGNIFICANT FUNDING TO LIFELINK RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT FOR EXPANSION OF A CLINICAL SUITE. DISTRIBUTION OF SUPPORT FOR RESEARCH AND COMMUNITY GRANTS TOTALED $105,000.LIFELINK LEGACY FUND CONTINUED TO SERVE TRANSPLANT PATIENTS IN FINANCIAL NEED. FOR THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30,2019, THE LIFELINK LEGACY FUND ASSISTED OVER 103 TRANSPLANT PATIENTS WITH OVER 132 FULLFILLED REQUESTS OF $114,000 FOR SHORT -TERM NECESSARY EXPENSES RELATED TO THEIR TRANPLANT CARE, INCLUDING MEDICATION, TRAVEL, ESSENTIAL DENTAL PROCEDURES, AND SO MUCH MORE. THESE FINANCIAL SUPPORT PROGRAMS WERE AVAILABLE TO PATIENTS AT TRANSPLANT CENTERS ACROSS FLORIDA AND GEORGIA. LIFELINK LEGACY FUND JOINED FORCES WITH LIONS EYE INSTITUTE FOR TRANSPLANT AND RESEARCH (LEITR) TO HOST THE ROAR THROUGH YBOR 5K AND 1 MILE FUN RUN DURING DONATE LIFE MONTH IN HISTORIC YBOR CITY IN TAMPA, FLORIDA. THE RACE WAS HELD TO PROMOTE THE LIFESAVING MESSAGE OF ORGAN, TISSUE AND EYE DONATION, AND TO RAISE MONEY FOR LIFELINK LEGACY FUND AND LEITR. THE RACE GARNERED NEARLY 1,600 RACE REGISTRATIONS.
LIFELINK LEGACY FUND CONTINUED SUPPORT OF THE LIFELINK PUERTO RICO EMPLOYEE RELIEF FUND. LIFELINK LEGACY FUND CREATED THE LIFELINK OF PUERTO RICO EMPLOYEE RELIEF FUND AS A LIMITED FINANCIAL FUND MADE AVAILABLE TO ANY CURRENT EMPLOYEE OF LIFELINK OF PUERTO RICO AS OF SEPTEMBER 20,2017 WHO HAVE A DOCUMENTED NEED DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES RELATED TO HURRICANE MARIA.
