Cambodia People Improvement Organization:More than 650 students in the Kindergarten-6th Grade school received 11 months of instruction, as compared to state funded schools, which only operate 9 months out of the year. Students out-performed state funded schools, with a pass rate of 96% for Grade 6 and 100% for Grade 9.Each student was provided clean drinking water and received hot, nutritious lunches, consisting of a balance of protein and vegetables. An on-site doctor performed routine checkups, monitored nutrition profiles, administered vaccinations, addressed common daily illnesses and offered preventative services. As an incentive for school attendance, 5 kg of rice was provided to students and their families each month, feeding a family of six for an entire month. PIO closed in March 2020 due to a governmental-enforced COVID-19 lockdown. The teachers at PIO developed remote teaching techniques, utilizing available technology and preparing online curriculum, lesson plans and videos to keep their students engaged academically.
