The Organization provided physician services in specialty practices including Anesthesia, Behavioral Health, Cardiology, Children's Dental, Hospitalist/Emergency, Infectious Disease, Neonatology, Neurology, Orthopedic Trauma, Orthopedics, Palliative Care/Hospice, Pediatrics, Primary Care (Internal and Family Medicine), Psychiatry, Trauma Surgery, Urgent Care, and Weight Management. Across all specialties there were 126 new providers, with 21 of them in General Surgery and 18 of them in Anesthesia. The Organization served over 169,000 patients at 41 practice locations. Benefits to the community included over $8.7 million in charity care based on foregone charges. Other accomplishments of the Organization's individual physicians which include volunteering in the local community and recognition for excellence and quality of healthcare service are highlighted below. A Developmental-Behavioral pediatric specialist again participated with the International Hospital for Children in the annual pediatric Spina Bifida evaluation clinics in Belize, Central America. A clinical geneticist provider volunteered services to a medical clinic in Haiti which provides care to the poor. Several physicians donated their time to the Medical Ministry of the Asheville-Buncombe County Christian Ministry serving uninsured and underinsured residents of Buncombe County. Several cardiologists, orthopedic physicians, pediatric providers, and primary care physicians provided community education across Western North Carolina including sports physicals and screenings for athletes at local schools.
The Organization expanded its Buncombe County Anesthesia services into Transylvania County during the year. Across all locations 18 new providers were added consisting of 1 MD and 17 CRNA's. The Organization served over 41,350 patients across all five counties.
