BFF COLLECTED DATA ON DRIVER YIELDING BEHAVIOR AT 45 CROSSWALKS, ORGANIZED 3 HIGH VISIBILITY ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS AT MORE THAN 15 CROSSWALKS FOR FIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICES, HANDED OUT MORE THAN 375 WARNINGS AND CITATIONS TO DRIVERS, AND EDUCATED LOCAL RESIDENTS AT MORE THAN 35 EVENTS. SINCE BFF LAUNCHED IN 2012, A COMBINATION OF ENFORCEMENT, ENGINEERING CHANGES AND EDUCATION HAS INCREASED DRIVER YIELD RATES FROM 12% TO 65% ON ROADS 35 MPH AND LOWER AND FROM 1.2% TO 35% ON ROADS 40 MPH AND HIGHER.
EXPANDED BEST FOOT FORWARD (BFF) PEDESTRIAN SAFETY PROGRAM INTO SEMINOLE COUNTY AND THE CITIES OF SANFORD, OVIEDO, LONGWOOD, CASSELBERRY, LAKE MARY, AND WINTER SPRINGS, WITH A COALITION OF SUPPORT FROM THE CITIES, COUNTY, LOCAL ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, PUBLIC SCHOOLS, HEALTH DEPARTMENTS, TRANSIT AGENCIES AND TRANSPORTATION PLANNING AGENCY. TRAINED LAW ENFORCEMENT AND ORGANIZED 2 HIGH VISIBILITY ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS AT 20 CROSSWALKS. HANDED OUT MORE THAN 150 WARNINGS AND CITATIONS TO DRIVERS. EDUCATED LOCAL RESIDENTS AT MORE THAN 10 EVENTS. COLLECTED DATA ON DRIVER YIELDING AT 35 MARKED CROSSWALKS. THIS PAST YEAR, THE DRIVER YIELD RATES INCREASED 15% ON ROADS 35 MPH AND LOWER AND INCREASED 5% ON ROADS 40 MPH AND HIGHER.
THE BIKE5CITIES PROGRAM OBJECTIVE IS TO INCREASE EDUCATION ABOUT BIKE FRIENDLY ROUTES AND TRAILS WITHIN THE CITIES OF ORLANDO, WINTER PARK, MAITLAND, CASSELBERRY AND EATONVILLE. MORE THAN 400 LOAL RESIDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE 28 MILE BIKE RIDE, WHERE OVER 85% RODE THEIR BIKE OCCASIONALLY AND WANTED TO LEARN MORE ABOUT SAFE, FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD BIKE ROUTES.
