The Archives of American Falconry was founded in 1986 to stem the loss of falconry's historical record in the United States as pioneer falconers died. Unique in the world, the Archives original intent expanded with the international nature of historic materials being collected. The name subsequently was shortened to the Archives of Falconry in 2003 and it now focuses on the history of this ancient sport worldwide. The Archives mission continues to be to collect, preserve and make accessible the physical evidence of falconers' achievements worldwide and to document their role in raptor conservation.
