Organizations Filed Purposes:
The Gem Community Citizens Project Group addresses various community needs such as nutrition and wellness for seniors, access to food for homebound individuals, and programs to help people in our community live healthy and active lifestyles.
The Hayden Senior Center is the primary program under GCCPG. We have only 4 part time paid staff members and several volunteers to operate the senior center activities. Volunteer hours were at 4,195. In 2019 the center expanded its facility into the adjacent suite next door to accommodate the continued growth of members. One suite is used for our dining hall where we prepare and serve meals twice a week. We served 2,437 meals in 2019. The other suite is used for health & fitness, games, socialization and education classes. Members and non-members can attend any of our activities. Health & Fitness classes had 3,220 attendee occurrences. Our games such as bingo, bridge, pinochle, mahjong, cribbage, and dominoes had 4,563 attendee occurrences. SHIBA who is a third party will make appointments with seniors to discuss Medicare and Medicaid benefits and assist with the process. We invite guest speakers which provide education to benefit the senior citizen population.
