Organizations Filed Purposes: PROVIDING EDUCATION AND INSPIRING ACTION TO CULTIVATE A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT IN THE WOOD RIVER VALLEY.

YOUTH EDUCATION - THROUGH HANDS-ON LEARNING, THE ERC INSPIRES PASSION AND EMPOWERS STUDENTS WITH THE KNOWLEDGE, TOOLS AND CONFIDENCE TO BECOME THE NEXT GENERATION OF OUR ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDS AND LEADERS. PROGRAMS INCLUDE IN-SCHOOL AND AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS (SPRING EXPLORATION SERIES, GROWING GREAT MINDS, AND SCIENCE AFTER SCHOOL), OVERNIGHT SUMMER CAMPS (ECOCAMP), AND PROGRAMS WITH COLLABORATIVE ORGANIZATIONS (LOCAL LIBRARIES, THE HUNGER COALITION, WOOD RIVER YMCA, AND MORE). YOUTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS ACCOUNT FOR NEARLY 50% OF THE ERC'S WORK. YOUTH EDUCATION HIGHLIGHTS: GROWING GREAT MINDS: TEACHERS AT ANY SCHOOL IN THE COUNT CAN REQUEST SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS TAILORED FOR THEIR PRE-K THROUGH 12TH GRADE CLASSROOMS. THIS YEAR, WE HELPED OVER 1600 STUDENTS GET OUTSIDE AND GAIN THE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND INTEREST TO BECOME BETTER STEWARDS OF OUR ENVIRONMENT. SPRING EXPLORATION SERIES: VISITING EXPERTS FROM ACROSS THE NORTHWEST DELIVER EXCITING, INTERACTIVE PRESENTATIONS TO ALL 2ND AND 3RD GRADE CLASSROOMS IN BLAINE COUNTY FOR SIX WEEKS -- REACHING OVER 500 STUDENTS. EVENING PRESENTATIONS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. SUMMER ECOCAMP: WE OFFER TWO WEEK-LONG OVERNIGHT CAMPS FOR YOUNG ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERS. CAMPERS GAIN ESSENTIAL BACKCOUNTRY AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS WHILE LEARNING ABOUT IDAHO'S ECOLOGY. GENEROUS SUPPORT FROM THE COMMUNITY MEANS THAT THIS YEAR WE COULD OFFER A TOTAL OF 5000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS.

RECYCLING - PICK UP FOR THE PLANET (PUP) THIS PROGRAM, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE FOREST SERVICE, BUREAU OF LAND MANAGMENT, BLAINE COUNTY RECREATION DISTRICT, AND OTHER GROUPS, LESSENS THE ENVIRONMENTAL, AESTHETIC, AND HEALTH IMPACTS OF UNATTENDED DOG WASTE ON LOCAL TRAILS. THE ERC PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL SIGNAGE, WEEKLY BIN MAINTENANCE, AND FREE DOG WASTE BAGS TO 16 POPULAR VALLEY-WIDE TRAILHEADS. IN 2019, WE ENGAGED LOCAL PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOL STUDENTS TO CONDUCT TRAIL CLEAN UPS AND CREATE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES FOR THE COMMUNITY. IN 2019, THE ERC DIVERTED MORE THAN 400 33-GALLON BAGS OF DOG WASTE FROM THE TRAILS - A 1/3 INCREASE COMPARED TO 2018.

PESTICIDE ACTION - THIS PROGRAM REDUCES THE USE OF PESTICIDES, HERBICIDES, AND SYNTHETIC FERTILIZERS IN THE WOOD RIVER VALLEY. THE ERC ADVOCATES FOR THE INTEGRATED PEST MANAGMENT PRCATICES WHERE NON-CHEMICAL ALTERNATIVES ARE CONSIDERED FIRST AND FOREMOST. THE ERC MAPS AND MONITORS NOXIOUS WEED POPULATIONS, AS WELL AS MAINTAINS THE WOOD RIVER BIO-CONTROL INSECTARY, WHICH IS GROWING SPOTTED KNAPWEED-EATING INSECTS. WE ALSO HOST EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS AND AWARENESS EVENTS, FACILITATE NOXIOUS WEED PULLS, PLANT NATIVE SEEDLINGS, AND CREATE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES.
