PROVIDE SHELTER FOR HOMELESS COMPANION ANIMALS FROM LEMHI COUNTY; PROVIDE PUBLIC SPAY AND NEUTER PROGRAMS; AND DEFEND AGAINST ANIMAL ABUSE AND NEGLECT. OPERATION OF RAGS & WAGS THRIFT STORE.

THE LEMHI COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY (LCHS) OWNS AND OPERATES THE SALMON ANIMAL SHELTER, WHERE WE PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY SHELTERING SERVICES FOR HOMELESS COMPANION ANIMALS FROM LEMHI COUNTY. THE LCHS ALSO PROVIDES FUNDS FOR PUBLIC SPAY AND NEUTER PROGRAMS IN AN ATTEMPT TO DECREASE THE NUMBER OF DOGS AND CATS ENTERING OUR SHELTER. WE ARE ALSO THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE AGAINST ANIMAL ABUSE AND NEGLECT, AND WORK CLOSELY WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICALS TO ENSURE THAT ALL ANIMALS IN LEMHI COUNTY ARE TREATED IN A KIND AND HUMANE MANNER. OPERATION OF RAGS & WAGS THRIFT STORE THAT GENERATES INCOME, PROVIDES CLOTHES, HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND FURNITURE TO SHOPPERS AT RESONABLE PRICES. CURRENT YEAR ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE: 1. WE APPLIED FOR AND RECEIVED TWO GRANTS, ONE FROM THE SALMON IDAHO LOT COMMISSION (LOCAL OPTION TAX) AND ONE FROM THE CHC FOUNDATION IN IDAHO FALLS (COMMUNITY HOSPITAL CORPORATION). THESE FUNDS WERE USED TO REMODEL TWO BATHROOMS IN THE ODD FELLOWS BUILDING TO MAKE THEM ADA HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE. 2. THE LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL UTILIZED THE UPSTAIRS OF THE ODD FELLOWS BUILDING FOR DRAMA PRACTICE AND PERFORMANCES. THERE IS NO OTHER PERFORMANCE VENUE IN THE AREA AND WE ALLOW THE SCHOOL TO UTILIZE THE SPACE WHICH IS ONE OF THE REASONS WE WANTED TO REMODEL THE BATHROOMS. ALSO, THE YEAR PRIOR WE INSTALLED A NEW HANDICAP LIFT SO THAT PEOPLE IN WHEELCHAIRS AND THOSE WHO COULD NOT NEGOTIATE THE STAIRWAY TO THE SECOND FLOOR COULD ATTEND EVENTS THERE. 3. THE SALMON ANIMAL SHELTER HIRED A NEW MANAGER WHO HAS DONE A TREMENDOUS JOB AT BRINGING THE SHELTER INTO THE DIGITAL AGE. ALL RECORDS ARE NOW DIGITAL, ALL APPLICATIONS ARE DONE ONLINE AND ALL MARKETING IS ONLINE WHICH ALLOWS US TO REACH A GREAT MANY MORE ADOPTERS. 4. WE JOINED THE IDAHO SHELTER COALITION, A GROUP OF SHELTERS THROUGHOUT IDAHO THAT WORK TOGETHER TO HELP FIND HOMES FOR THE ANIMALS THAT COME UNDER THEIR CARE. WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BRING IN ANIMALS FROM OTHER SHELTERS, AND LIKEWISE SEND SOME OF OURS OUT TO OTHER SHELTERS OVER THE PAST YEAR, INCREASING ADOPTIONS ACROSS THE STATE.
