DIRT PALACE PUBLIC PROJECTS FACILITATES THE STOREFRONT WINDOW GALLERY LOCATED AT 14 OLNEYVILLE SQUARE, PROVIDENCE. THE STOREFRONT WINDOW GALLERY IS A PUBLIC ART EXHIBITION SPACE WITH A MONTHLY ROTATION OF ARTIST INSTALLATIONS. 8 ARTISTS EXHIBITED IN THE GALLERY IN 2019. THE EXHIBITION IS VISIBLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN OLNEYVILLE SQUARE 24 HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. IN THE FALL OF 2018, WE BEGAN OUR WOONASQUATUCKET RIVER GREENWAY ARTS (WRGA) PROJECT IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PROVIDENCE'S DEPARTMENT OF ART, CULTURE + TOURISM, WHEREIN WE COMMISSIONED ARTISTS TO CREATE WORK ABOUT THE RIVER. THIS PROGRAM RAN THROUGH AUGUST OF 2019. IN CONJUNCTION WITH EACH WRGA ART INSTALLATION, WE HOSTED A PUBLIC EVENT - AN ARTIST TALK - DURING WHICH EACH WINDOW ARTIST WAS INTERVIEWED ABOUT THEIR WORK BY ANOTHER ARTIST IN THE COMMUNITY. IN THE LAST THIRD OF 2019, WE RESUMED OUR REGULAR STOREFRONT WINDOW GALLERY PROGRAM AND PRESENTED THREE INSTALLATIONS.
DIRT PALACE PUBLIC PROJECTS RUNS AN ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM AT 14 OLNEYVILLE SQUARE IN PROVIDENCE. DIRT PALACE CLASSIC RESIDENCIES OFFER ARTISTS AFFORDABLE LIVE/WORK STUDIO SPACE WITH ACCESS TO OUR MEDIA BASED FACILITIES - PRINTSHOP, WOOD SHOP, SCULPTURE STUDIO, MUSIC/PERFORMANCE PRACTICE SPACE. RESIDENT ARTISTS PAY RENTS AND PERFORM ABOUT 20 HOURS PER MONTH IN STUDIO MANAGEMENT DUTIES IN EXCHANGE FOR A MINIMUM 1 YEAR ARTIST RESIDENCY.
DIRT PALACE PUBLIC PROJECTS FACILITATES EXHIBITIONS AT THE WEDDING CAKE HOUSE (WCH), LOCATED AT 514 BROADWAY, WHICH WERE ACCESSIBLE VIA PUBLIC EVENTS AND TOURS IN 2019 AND WILL BE ACCESSIBLE TO NEW WCH PROGRAMMING AUDIENCES IN 2020 WHEN THE FACILITY IS FULLY IN OPERATIONS. IN 2019 THE INAUGURAL EXHIBITION - RUFFLES REPAIR AND RITUAL: THE FINE ART OF FIXING (RRR) WAS INITIALLY FUNDED BY THE ANDY WARHOL FOUNDATION WITH SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDING FOR ARTISTS COMMISSIONS WHICH WERE CAPITALIZED TO THE BUILDING. CAPITALIZED ARTIST COMMISSION RECEIVED SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDING THROUGH THE CHAMPLIN FOUNDATION, RHODE ISLAND STATE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS, AND RHODE ISLAND HOUSING CORPORATION. THE RRR EXHIBITION COMPRISED OF 150 ARTIST WORKS TO CELEBRATE THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE WCH SINCE IT WAS BUILT IN 1867 AND ASKED ARTISTS TO CONSIDER IDEAS AROUND REPAIR. THE 150 ARTIST WORKS FELL INTO 4 CATEGORIES, 50 WORKS FRAMED AND HUNG ON THE WALLS, 25 LITERARY WORKS COMPILED INTO A BOOK, 25 TIME-BASED WORKS DISPLAYED ON MONITORS AND THROUGH 3 PUBLIC EVENTS, AND 50 LONG TERM WORKS WHICH WERE EITHER BUILT DIRECTLY INTO THE WCH (TILE, WALLPAPER, ADA RAMP, ETC) OR TO BE USED AS FIXTURES (LIGHTING FIXTURES, FURNITURE, ETC).THERE WERE 4 PUBLIC EVENTS FOR AUDIENCES TO VIEW THE WORKS AND PERFORMANCES AT WCH AND 2 PUBLIC EVENTS FEATURING THE TIMES BASED WORKS AT THE RISD MUSEUM. IN ADDITION TO THESE PUBLIC EVENTS THE EXHIBITION WAS AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC DURING WEEKEND OPEN HOUSE HOURS AND VIA TOURS CONDUCTED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO VARIOUS EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.
