To provide a full range of harm reduction, recovery, and basic needs services to men and women, including the transgender community
HIV/HCV Prevention and Navigation: Project Weber/RENEW (PWR) works with numerous partners to slow the spread of HIV/HCV through multi-tiered efforts. As a prevention effort Project Weber/RENEW distributed over 25,000 condoms and 11,500 clean needles to individuals at high risk of infection. PWR also partnered on a NIH funded research grant that linked over 90 male sex workers to PrEP and provided extensive support to promote adherence. PWR also tested over 340 high risk individuals for HIV and HCV. For clients with existing or new diagnoses PWR staff provided peer navigation services to remain in or return to care with the goal of achieving viral suppression for HIV positive clients and support through the treatment process for HCV positive clients.
High Risk Case Management and Basic Needs: Project Weber/RENEW provided basic needs and case management support to approximately 1,000 individuals ranging from a meal to new outfit. Of those, almost 250 received case management such as replacement or changing documents, medical, social and housing services navigation or advocacy, and employment advice.
Recovery Support/ and Harm Reduction: Project Weber/RENEW conducted approximately 10,000 hours of peer led street outreach. The scope of this outreach expanded by orders of magnitude after the family of a PWR volunteer who had relapsed and fatally overdosed donated a van to the organization. During outreach and in our drop-in centers in Providence and Pawtucket we distributed over 1,500 naloxone kits and provided referrals to detox or treatment, recovery housing support, and recovery coaching to approximately 500 clients.
