THE MISSION OF THE PROVIDENCE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM IS TO INSPIRE AND CELEBRATE LEARNING THROUGH ACTIVE PLAY AND EXPLORATION. THE MUSEUM WELCOMES CHILDREN AND ADULTS OF ALL AGES AND BACKGROUNDS AND FROM ALL COMMUNITIES ALTHOUGH ITS FOCUS IS ON SERVING THE YOUTH OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND, AGES 1 THROUGH 11, AND THE ADULTS WHO CARE FOR THEM.
MUSEUM LEARNING OCCURS IN THE EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITS AND PROGRAMS CREATED AND PRESENTED BY THE MUSEUM. THE MUSEUM CREATES AND PRESENTS INTERACTIVE EXHIBITS DESIGNED TO MEET THE DEVELOPMENTAL NEEDS OF CHILDREN AGES 1 - 11. IN 2019 RHODE ISLAND'S FIRST AND ONLY CHILDREN'S MUSEUM CELEBRATED 43 YEARS OF ADVENTURE, EXPLORATION, ADVOCACY,RESEARCH AND COMMUNITY SERVICE. WELCOMED 166,176 TOTAL VISITS,PROVIDED 45,320 FREE ADMISSIONS AND SERVED A RECORD 11,551 CHILDREN AND CAREGIVERS OFFSITE. IN 2019 THE MUSEUMS FOR ALL ACCESS PROGRAM PROVIDED $4 ADMISSION FOR SNAP BENEFICIAIRIES AND THEIR FAMILIES AND BLUE STAR PROVIDED FREE ADMISSION FOR ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY AND THEIR FAMILIES. REDUCED RATE SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCY MEMBERSHIPS PROVIDE FREE ADMISSION TO THE MUSEUM FOR THERAPUTIC VISITS SUCH AS THOSE FOR FAMILIES WHO HAVE BEEN SEPERATED AND CHILDREN WHO NEED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY.
IN 2019,THERE WERE 215 FAMILIES TOGETHER SERVED WITH 337 CHILDREN AND 266 PARENTS IN 209 COURT-SEPARATED FAMILIES.
THE MISSION OF THE AMERICORPS PROGRAM AT PROVIDENCE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM IS TO INSTILL A LIFETIME LOVE OF LEARNING IN CHILDREN-ESPECIALLY THOSE WHOSE EXPOSURE TO RICH EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES IS LIMITED. THE MUSEUM AMERICORPS TEAM IS A GROUP OF 20 DYNAMIC AND DIVERSE INDIVIDUALS WHO, DEVELOP AND LEAD AFTER-SCHOOL SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ARTS AND MATHEMATICS (STEAM) ACTIVITIES FOR 250 PARTICIPANTS AT BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS; DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT PROGRAMS FOR 1,040 HEAD START PRESCHOOL AGE CHILDREN; AND PROVIDE EXPANDED COMMUNITY AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES AS MUSEUM EDUCATORS FACILITATING LEARNING IN THE MUSEUM'S HANDS-ON OUTREACH PROGRAMS AND EXHIBITS.
