SOJOURNER HOUSE'S MISSION IS TO PROMOTE HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS BY PROVIDING CULTURALLY SENSITIVE SUPPORT, ADVOCACY, EDUCATION, AND HOUSING FOR VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING; AND TO EFFECT SYSTEMS CHANGE.
SOJOURNER HOUSE PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES TO HELP THEM FIND AND SECURE PERMANENT HOUSING THROUGH A RAPID REHOUSING PROGRAM, PERMANENT HOUSING PROGRAM, AND RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM. CLIENTS RECEIVE ASSISTANCE IN LOCATING AN APARTMENT, AND THEY RECEIVE RENTAL ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES THROUGHOUT THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAM. IN THE 2020 FISCAL YEAR, WE PROVIDED 23,925 BED NIGHTS OF RAPID REHOUSING TO 160 CLIENTS, AND WE PROVIDED 66 FAMILIES WITH PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING FOR A TOTAL OF 9,576 BED NIGHTS. WE ALSO PROVIDED SUPPLEMENTARY RENTAL ASSISTANCE TO 38 HOUSEHOLDS FOR A TOTAL OF $37,576.THE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAM PROVIDES SHORT-TERM HOUSING IN INDIVIDUAL APARTMENTS FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES TO HAVE A SAFE PLACE TO LIVE WHILE BEGINNING TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS THAT CAUSE THEIR HOMELESSNESS. SOJOURNER HOUSE PROVIDED 13,891 BED NIGHTS TO 65 CLIENTS DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2020.
EMERGENCY SHELTER IS AVAILABLE FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN FLEEING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SEXUAL VIOLENCE AND/OR HUMAN TRAFFICKING. THE EMERGENCY SHELTER PROVIDES HOUSING AND CASE MANAGEMENT FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES. CLIENTS ARE SUPPORTED WHILE THEY ESTABLISH FINANCIAL AND EMOTIONAL STABILITY AFTER LEAVING THEIR ABUSERS. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING ON JUNE 30, 2020, WE PROVIDED A TOTAL OF 6,565 SHELTER BED NIGHTS TO 81 CLIENTS ACROSS THREE SEPARATE SHELTERS.
SOJOURNER HOUSE PROVIDES THE ONLY DROP-IN ADVOCACY AND RESOURCE CENTER IN THE GREATER PROVIDENCE AREA. CLIENTS CAN ACCESS SUPPORTIVE SERVICES, CLINICAL HELP, HIV TESTING, SUPPORT GROUPS, AND OTHER RELATED PROGRAMS. DURING OUR 2020 FISCAL YEAR, WE PROVIDED A TOTAL OF 11,672 SESSIONS ACROSS ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS FOR A TOTAL OF 7,811 HOURS WITH 740 REFERRALS. OVER 2,193 HOTLINE CALLS WERE ANSWERED, AND OVER 740 REFERRALS WERE MADE TO OTHER AGENCIES. OVER 130 CLIENTS RECEIVED CLINICAL SERVICES FOR 1,190 SESSIONS AND 1,055 HOURS. OVER 122 HIV TESTS WERE ADMINISTERED, AND 849 PEOPLE WERE REACHED IN HIV EDUCATION AND OUTREACH EFFORTS. OVER 331 CLIENTS ATTENDED 286 SUPPORT GROUPS FOR 454 HOURS.
