THE MISSION OF THE WARM CENTER IS TO PROVIDE A CONTINUUM OF CARE AND SERVICE TO THE HOMELESS AND NEEDY BY PROVIDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND ASSURING SUPPORTIVE SERVICES, AND TO HELP THE HOMELESS AND NEEDY BUILD SELF-ESTEEM AND MOVE TOWARD INDEPENDENT AND RESPONSIBLE LIVING.
SHELTER PROGRAM - THE EMERGENCY SHELTER PROGRAM FOR SINGLE INDIVIDUALS HOUSED 140 UNDUPLICATED INDIVIDUALS DURING THIS FISCAL YEAR ENDED 6-30-18, FOR A TOTAL OF 6,484 BED NIGHTS. OF THOSE INDIVIDUALS, 64 WERE ABLE TO MOVE INTO PERMANENT HOUSING, AN ADDITIONAL 25 CLIENTS MOVED IN WITH FAMILY OR FRIENDS ON A PERMANENT BASIS, 18 MOVED INTO TRANSITIONAL HOUSING WITHIN WARM'S PROGRAMS OR OTHER RESOURCES AND 12 DID NOT COMPLETE THE PROGRAM OR WERE ASKED TO LEAVE. OF THOSE INDIVIDUALS THAT COMPLETED THE PROGRAM, 67 WERE ABLE TO SECURE FULL OR PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT.
HARVEST HOMES - IN FISCAL YEAR ENDED 6-30-2018, THE HARVEST HOMES PROGRAM PROVIDED HOUSING FOR 13 HOMELESS FAMILIES CONSISTING OF 21 ADULTS AND 19 CHILDREN. WITHOUT THE RESOURCES OF HARVEST HOMES, THESE FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS MAY HAVE BEEN HOMELESS AND IN A SHELTER. OF THE 8 FAMILIES WHO EXITED THE PROGRAM, 3 MOVED ON TO RENTAL HOUSING WITHOUT SUBSIDY ON A PERMANENT BASIS, 5 EXITED TO PERMANENT SUBSIDIZED HOUSING, 2 WENT ON TO PERMANENT HOUSING WITH FAMILY, ONE FAMILY WAS ASKED TO LEAVE AND ONE FAMILY LEFT ON THEIR OWN.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH - THE WARM CENTER WAS INVITED TO APPLY AS FISCAL AGENT FOR THE WASHINGTON COUNTY BASIC NEEDS NETWORK FOR A GRANT FROM THE RHODE ISLAND FOUNDATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $40,000 TO ASSIST THE COMMUNITY WITH BASIC NEEDS SUCH AS RENT, UTILITIES, AND PRESCRIPTION MEDICINE. AS A RESULT OF THIS GRANT, AND THROUGH WARM'S EXTENSIVE COLLABORATION WITH 30 BASIC NEEDS NETWORK PARTNERS, 76 HOUSEHOLDS WERE STABILIZED. BY THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR JUNE 30, 2018, THE TOTAL GRANT WAS UTILIZED. THIS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PREVENTED FURTHER DECLINE OF THESE FAMILIES INTO POVERTY AND HOMELESSNESS. THE WARM CENTER WAS ABLE TO ASSIST 300 INDIVIDUALS THROUGH COMMUNITY CRITICAL OUTREACH THIS FISCAL YEAR.
