Uganda:In 2019, Africa Development Promise continued our support of 3 agricultural and 2 solar cooperatives, a total of 75 women. With funding from the University of Colorado, we implemented 2 solar powered water irrigation system for two cooperatives. Besides irrigation, the systems provide drinking water for the surrounding communities. In addition, we piloted our Girls with Dreams programs to help girls between the ages of 13 - 19 navigate the social and cultural pressures that prevent them from completing school and pursuing a career. We also launched a vocational program to provide computer literacy and a tailoring program. Unfortunately, we had a break-in at our training facility in August 2019 and all the computers and other technology equipment were stolen. The program was shut down pending a police investigation. Working with the security company and their insurance we were reimbursed about 70% of the stolen items. The program was re-launched in January 2019 and again had to be suspended because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rwanda: In 2019, ADP continued our support of 2 agricultural cooperatives and 1 community-based organization. We supported them with capacity building training, inputs such as fertilizer, improved seed, and pesticides. The community based organization (CBO) received a new water pump to improve irrigation and yield of its tree tomato farm.
