TO RAISE MONEY FOR CHARITABLE ALLOCATION.
ALLOCATIONS WERE MADE TO THE FANCONI ANEMIA RESEARCH FUND TO SUPPORT MEDICAL, SCIENTIFIC AND TREATMENT RESEARCH OF FANCONI ANEMIA AND ITS RELATED CANCERS:$100,00 WAS ALLOCATED TO FUND RESEARCH ENTITLED GELFITNIB/AFATNIB THERAPY FOR HEAD AND NECK SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA IN FANCONI ANEMIA. THE RESEARCH IS BEING CONDUCTED BY JORDI MINGUILLON, PHD AND JORDI SURRALLES PHD, SPAIN. BEYOND SURGERY THERE IS CURRENTLY NO EFFECTIVE THERAPY TO TREAT PEOPLE WITH FA WHO DEVELOP SOLID TUMORS. RESEARCHERS WILL EXAMINE TWO CURRENTLY FDA-APPROVED DRUGS AS A POTENTIAL FOR SOLID TUMORS IN FA. THIS WORK WILL LAY THE FOUNDATION FOR A POTENTIAL CLINICAL TRIAL IN 2020.$27,700 WAS ALLOCATED TO FUND RESEARCH ENTITLED SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA CHEMOPREVENTION PHASE 1. THE RESEARCH IS BEING CONDUCTED BY MARKUS GROMPE, MD, OREGON HEALTH & SCIENCE UNIVERSITY. HEAD AND NECK CANCER IS A MAJOR ISSUE FOR THE FA POPULATION. THERE IS NO SUITABLE PRECLINICAL MODEL TO STUDY POTENTIAL STRATEGIES FOR PREVENTING OR DELAYING SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA IN FA. USING A MOUSE MODEL DEVELOPED BY A LAB IN THE UNITED KINGDOM, RESEARCHERS WILL TEST SMALL MOLECULES THAT COULD PREVENT OR DELAY TUMORS IN THESE MICE. RESULTS WILL THEN BE USED TO INFORM AND GUIDE PREVENTION TRIALS IN HUMANS.$50,000 WAS ALLOCATED TO FUND RESEARCH ENTITLED A PORCINE MODEL FOR FANCONI ANEMIA. THIS RESEARCH IS BEING CONDUCTED BY MARKUS GROMPE, MD AND WILLIAM FLEMING, MD, OREGON HEALTH & SCIENCE UNIVERSITY. A LIMIT IN FA RESEARCH IS THE ABSENCE OF A LIVE MODEL THAT DISPLAYS KEY FEATURES OF THE DISEASE. RESEARCHERS WILL CREATE THE FIRST LARGE ANIMAL MODEL OF FA TO TEST POTENTIAL THERAPIES FOR PEOPLE WITH FA.$81,683 WAS ALLOCATED TO FUND RESEARCH ENTITLED CRISPR TRANSCRIPTIONAL SCREEN FOR RE-ACTIVATION OF HDR IN FA PATIENT-DERIVED CELLS. THE RESEARCH IS BEING CONDUCTED BY JACOB CORN PHD, ETH ZURICH SWITZERLAND.THERE IS MUCH EXCITEMENT AROUND THE POTENTIAL OF CRISPR GENOME EDITING TO TREAT DISORDERS LIKE FA, BUT THE MUTATIONS THAT CAUSE FA ALSO REDUCE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GENOME EDITING. RESEARCHERS WILL SEARCH FOR POTENTIAL WAYS TO REACTIVATE GENOME EDITING IN FA PATIENT CELLS. ALLOCATIONS WERE MADE TO THE FANCONI ANEMIA RESEARCH FUND TO PROVIDE NEEDY FA FAMILIES THE FINANCIAL MEANS TO ATTEND CAMP SUNSHINE FOR SUPPORT, RESPITE AND EDUCATION.$5,000 WAS ALLOCATED FOR SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FAMILIES AFFECTED BY FA TO ATTEND CAMP SUNSHINE. IN ADDITION THERE ARE IN-DEPTH SEMINARS PRESENTED BY A WIDE RANGE OF FA SPECIALISTS PRESENTING INFORMATION ON THE MOST CURRENT THERAPIES AND ADVANCEMENTS. THE PRESENTERS REMAIN AVAILABLE TO FAMILIES FOR INDIVIDUAL QUESTIONS AND CONSULTS.ALLOCATIONS WERE MADE TO THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO FOUNDATION. $50,000 WAS ALLOCATED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO FOUNDATION FOR THE KENNETH R.
