Programs are designed to provide support, information, and encouragement to empower persons with disabilities and remove barriers which prevent independence and equal opportunity.
In home support services allow clients to direct their own care for routine and repetitive activities of daily living. Home health services include registered nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and certified nursing assistants to provide necessary medical care in the home under the orders of a physician. The Veteran In Charge (VIC) program is Veteran-directed and serves eligible Veterans of any age who want to remain living in their home and community for as long as possible. Through the VIC program, Veterans work with one of The IC's Veteran coaches to plan and manage VA-funded supports and service.
The Center is a state and federally certified center for independent living which provides a wide array of services for individuals who self identify as having a disability and who want to accomplish personal goals to gain independence. Goals can include assistance with finding employment, peer support, transitions from nursing facilities to the community, information on technology and tools, obtaining benefits, and classes that will improve skills such as budgeting and cooking. The Center also focuses on individual and systems advocacy with a goal of empowering and providing the education to members of the disability community to advocate for themselves.
The Independence Center CNA training program provides the advance preparatory training that is required by the Colorado State Board of Nursing before a student is permitted to take the Colorado Nurse Aide Competency and Evaluation Exams (State Boards). This training includes instruction in the technical knowledge and specific nursing skills that will be covered by the state board exams. This is a multi-award winning program for students wanting to obtain the necessary training that is required to become a Professional Certified Nurse Aide (CNA).
