STRENGTHEN THE OUTDOOR RECREATION INDUSTRY FOR THE PIKES PEAK REGION THROUGH LEADERSHIP AND COLLABORATION.
PROMOTE OUTDOOR RECREATION IN PIKES PEAK REGION
PIKESPEAKOUTDOORS.ORG We continue to update and improve the website designed for locals and tourists alike to find all the information they need to safely and responsibly recreate in our region. The site exposes the user to numerous recreational opportunities in our region, featuring some lesser known locations, to help spread the love across the area and provide some relief to high demand recreational hot spots. It includes an outdoors events calendar as well as pointing to the many volunteer opportunities in the region. The site makes it easy to find local businesses providing gear, rentals, classes, and guided tours for specific outdoor activities and throughout the site stewardship ethics are promoted. In 2019, we leveraged a Colorado Tourism Office Matching Marketing Grant, to develop the Family Adventure Guide to the Pikes Peak Region both in print and online, as well as an Adventure Club for kids to encourage kids and families to explore the region and to provide resources to help them.
STATE OF THE OUTDOORS We hosted our 3rd annual State of the Outdoors conference to elevate outdoor recreation as an economic driver for this community, inviting business and community leader involvement. The 2019 event included a keynote from the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade(OEDIT) director and the Div of the Colorado Office of Outdoor Recreation highlighting the value of outdoor recreation as an economic driver for communities. We also hosted an Outdoor Exp with over 30 outdoor businesses, nonprofits, and land managers participating.
PIKES PEAK APEX The Pikes Peak APEX is a unique 4-day mountain bike challenge to be held in September, 2020 on the slopes of Pikes Peak, Americas Mountain. The event features exhilarating, exceptionally crafted routes through dirt roads, jeep trails, and the amazing alpine singletrack that is essential Pikes Peak. The terrain will be challenging, but not overly technical. This rigorous Rocky Mountain trail experience through the aspens in Colorados backcountry will draw not only professional riders, but also amateur cyclists looking for a bucket list endurance experience. Persons Benefited: The Pikes Peak APEX will benefit the regions citizens, through economic impact and greater visibility and awareness of the Pikes Peak region as a desirable outdoor recreation destination. Through the APEX we are establishing the PPORA Stewardship Fund which will benefit residents and visitors alike by repairing and improving trails and recreational assets in the region through on the ground projects.
