Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build and renovate homes, communities and hope. Habitat for Humanity of Montezuma County produces safe, affordable houses for qualified homebuyers regardless of race, religion or background. Each home is built or renovated in partnership with homeowner families, sponsors, and volunteers. The organization generates funds for this work through donations and grants. It operates a thrift store that accepts and sells donated furniture, building materials, and home goods to generate additional funds. In addition to the building program, a repair program assists qualified homeowners with repairs to existing homes.
Habitat for Humanity of Montezuma County builds safe, affordable houses for qualified homebuyers regardless of race, religion or background. Each home is built in partnership with homeowner families, sponsors, and volunteers. Our houses are safe, decent, and affordable. Homes are sold to a partner family, who then repays an affordable mortgage. Prospective homeowners attend workshops and partner with our Family Services Committee so that they are well prepared to become homeowners. The organization selected it's first family for a new build and construction began prior to the end of this fiscal year. This program includes communication with potential participants, processing of applications, education for the families as needed, and other administrative elements.
Renovation of existing homes and subsequent sale of the homes to qualified families who have assisted in accomplishing the completion/rehabilitation work. Work is done primarily by volunteers and future homeowners. Three partially completed new homes and one older home in need of significant rehabilitation were purchased from USDA. Two of these homes were completed and sold to eligible families in the fiscal year ending 6-30-16, a third was completed and sold to an eligible family in the fiscal year ending 6-30-17. The fourth, older, home, was gutted and completely renovated and sold in the fiscal year ending 6-30-18. This program includes communication with potential participants, processing of applications, education for the families as needed, and other administrative elements.
A Habitat for Humanity ReStore is operated. This is a thrift store where donated merchandise (furniture, building materials, household goods) is sold. Net from the ReStore provides funds to purchase materials and pay wages in the completion of Program Service Accomplishments 1, 2 and 4. The ReStore is operated by paid staff and volunteers. Volunteers include families who have qualified for either a new home or a renovated home and whose volunteer hours are part of their sweat equity requirement for those programs.
