Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO PROMOTE THE RIGHTS AND WELL-BEING OF DAY LABORERS AND DOMESTIC WORKERS IN COLORADO THROUGH EDUCATION, ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY, JOB SKILLS, LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, UNITED ACTION, AND ADVOCACY.
EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM: EL CENTRO IS A SAFE INDOOR PLACE WHERE WORKERS CAN GO TO OBTAIN DIRECT ACCESS TO WORK, PARTICIPATE IN WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND SKILL BUILDING TRAININGS, AND ACCESS RESOURCES SUCH AS A HEALTH NAVIGATOR AND ENGLISH CLASSES.
ORGANIZING AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT: EL CENTRO ENGAGES AND ORGANIZES 300 WORKERS EACH YEAR; 10% PARTICIPATE IN LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS, DECISION MAKING FOR ORGANIZATIONAL EFFORTS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE COMMUNITY AS REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ORGANIZATION. THE WOMEN'S PROGRAM OFFERS INTENSIVE JOB SKILLS AND LEADERSHIP TRANINGS AND BUILDS A SENSE OF COMMUNITY AMONGST LOW WAGE DOMESTIC WORKERS. THE WOMEN HAVE CREATED A COLLECTIVE MODEL TO ACCESS JOBS THROUGH EL CENTRO'S EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM.
WORKER RIGHTS: EL CENTRO CO-LEADS THE COLORADO WAGE THEFT TASKFORCE AND THROUGH COLLABORATION WITH OTHER NONPROFITS AND THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, WORKS TO PREVENT CASES OF WAGE THEFT AND ADDRESS THEM WHEN THEY OCCUR. THIS PROGRAM IS PUBLICIZED COMMUNITY WIDE FOR ANY WORKER WHO HAS EXPERIENCED NON-PAYMENT OR SEVERE UNDERPAYMENT FOR WORK RENDERED.
