THE CIVIC CENTER CONSERVANCY WORKS WITH THE CITY AND COUNTY OF DENVER TO RESTORE, ENHANCE, AND ACTIVATE DENVER'S CIVIC CENTER PARK. THE CONSERVANCY'S EFFORTS ARE FOCUSED ON PRODUCING EVENTS AND PROGRAMMING TO ACTIVATE CIVIC CENTER; PUBLIC AWARENESS AND ENGAGEMENT; ADVOCACY FOR PARK NEEDS AND IMPROVEMENTS; FUNDRAISING FOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS, ACTIVITIES AND INITIATIVES TO SUPPORT AND REVITALIZE CIVIC CENTER PARK.
REVITALIZATION OF DENVER'S CIVIC CENTER PARK
IN 2020, DUE TO THE IMPACTS OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC INCLUDING PARK CLOSURES AND PROHIBITIONS ON GATHERING, THE CONSERVANCY'S EFFORTS TO ACTIVATE CIVIC CENTER PARK THROUGH ITS SIGNATURE PROGRAMS WERE LESSENED FROM PREVIOUS YEARS. THE CONSERVANCY'S SUMMER OUTDOOR CAFE, "CIVIC CENTER EATS", CELEBRATED ITS 14TH YEAR IN 2020. DOWNTOWN VISITORS, WORKERS AND RESIDENTS ENJOYED LUNCH FROM LOCAL GOURMET FOOD TRUCKS WHILE HELPING TO SUPPORT CIVIC CENTER'S ONGOING REVITALIZATION.2020 WAS THE SEVENTH YEAR FOR THE CONSERVANCY'S FREE "CIVIC CENTER MOVES" FITNESS SERIES, PROVIDING FITNESS CLASSES FOR ALL LEVELS, PARTICIPANTS GOT HEALTHIER, AND SO DID CIVIC CENTER PARK.IN 2020, 3RD PARTY EVENTS WERE RECRUITED INTO CIVIC CENTER PARK INCLUDING THE DOWNTOWN OPEN SNOWBOARD EVENT. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONSERVANCY HELPED TO FACILIATE THE RELOCATION OF THE CHRISTKINDL MARKET TO CIVIC CENTER AND LAYERED ON ADDITIONAL HOLIDAY LIGHTING. THIS CONTINUES TO BE AN ANTICIPATED AREA OF GROWTH FOR THE CONSERVANCY.
IN 2020, THE CIVIC CENTER CONSERVANCY CONTINUED TO INVEST IN SUPPLEMENTAL PARK MAINTENANCE SERVICES AND WORK TOWARD FUTURE INFRASTRUCTURE ENHANCEMENTS IN CIVIC CENTER PARK RELATED TO THE CIVIC CENTER PARK MASTER PLAN. THIS INCLUDED A MAJOR INVESTMENT WITH THE CITY AND COUNTY OF DENVER IN THE CIVIC CENTER NEXT 100 CONCEPT DESIGN EFFORT. ADDITIONALLY, A GRANT WAS MADE TO AN ORGANIZATION TO ASSIST WITH PROVISIONS OF SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS IN CIVIC CENTER PARK AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS.
