Organizations Filed Purposes: Colorado Business Committee for the Arts (CBCA)s mission is to advance Colorados creative economy by connecting business and arts. We accomplish this mission through advocacy, research, training, volunteerism and arts engagement efforts. CBCA has been forging inspiring arts and business partnerships for over 30 years.

Membership ServicesBusiness for the Arts Awards salute exemplary partnerships between businesses and the arts. The annual awards luncheon in March celebrated innovative partnerships, generous philanthropy, creative businesses and stellar leadership across the state. In 2019, CBCA recognized six outstanding organizations as a cohort of honorees and four individual leaders, including two awards connected to signature CBCA programs. Over 700 arts, civic, and business leaders attended the sold-out Business for the Arts Awards Luncheon. Guests enjoyed a variety of entertainment and live performances before and during the event, such as a local rock band, theatre performance and a West African dance and drumming ensemble. This arts-infused event also included original artwork as table centerpieces and each honoree received a one-of-a-kind fine art sculpture created by a Colorado Springs artist. Night At distributes free tickets to cultural events to CBCA Member companies and their employees. Night At events offer access to diverse artistic opportunities, performances and exhibitions, while helping to build new audiences for local cultural organizations. CBCA distributed over 1,300 complimentary tickets to employees from over 70 unique member companies. These events included private evenings at an art museum, tickets to an outdoor music concert, dress rehearsal of a ballet performance and a holiday movie extravaganza at the film center.

Community EducationArts + Industry Forum Series is expanded in 2019 to include quarterly events. Launched in 2018, CBCAs Arts + Industry Forum Series offers engaging discovery sessions that bring together experts and stakeholders from a variety of arts and business sectors. By fostering a community dialogue, these forums highlight timely issues, inspire action and raises awareness on how arts interact and influence specific industries. In 2019, CBCA hosted four forums that focused Arts + Health care, Arts + Outdoor Recreation, Arts + Impact Investing and Arts + Energy. Community Education and Advocacy grew as an area of emphasis in 2019, focusing on the economic and social relevance of the arts. CBCA developed a presentation on Why Art is Smart for Business and shared it with business leaders from Lakewood to Sterling, CO. Representatives from CBCAs Board of Directors spoke at a convening of Colorado Legislatures Arts Caucus on why the arts are important to their business. CBCA participated in planning committees for a forum on arts education and the Biennial of the Americas. CBCA formed new partnerships with colleagues in Colorado Springs and Fort Collins, as well as partners in rural Colorado.

Programs and TrainingColorado Attorneys for the Arts (CAFTA) is a legal referral service that connects income-qualified artists, cultural nonprofits and creative businesses statewide with pro bono legal assistance. CAFTA made 41 referrals connecting a creative client with a volunteer attorney. CAFTA made 17 educational presentations reaching 315 people. Many of these educational presentations were located outside the Denver metro area, including three full-day workshops in state-certified creative districts: Greeley, Crested Butte and Colorado Springs. Each of these full-day events had a CLE for attorneys, presentations for artists and an entertaining networking lunch. In 2019, CAFTA also hosted its first Attorney Appreciation event. It also recognized the second Volunteer Attorney of the Year at the annual Business for the Arts Awards Luncheon. Expanding beyond legal education, CBCA helped organize four other financial workshops for creatives on topics like cash flow, budgeting, income and sales tax in partnership with local arts organizationsLeadership Arts is a unique nine-month training program that prepares people to serve on nonprofit boards and increase their civic engagement in the arts. Leadership Arts educates, inspires and equips professionals from all sectors to be effective community leaders. The program meets monthly from September through May, hosted at various cultural venues. Expert speakers present on topics such as strategic planning, advocacy, governance, fundraising, legal issues and current issues in the arts. The annual Board Fair was hosted at the McNichols Civic Center Building and attended by 50 cultural nonprofits from across the metro area.Leadership Arts 2018-2019 started off with 50 participants, representing a variety of business sectors, career levels and backgrounds. This cohort graduated in May 2019 and joined 850 total Leadership Arts alumni who have gone on to serve in hundreds of volunteer leadership positions along the Front Range. In September 2019, CBCA welcomed a class of 56 people, tied for their second largest class and the most competitive application process.In 2016, the CBCA Board of Directors started the Deborah Jordy Leadership Arts Scholarship Fund. Due to the fundraising efforts of the 2018-2019 cohort and matching gifts from the board and other community members, CBCA was able to offer a total of six paid and partial scholarships to members of the Leadership Arts 2019-2020 class.Leadership Arts Alumni Network (LAAN) connects graduates of CBCAs Leadership Arts program to each other and various aspects of the arts community. In 2019, LAAN shifted their quarterly event series to focus on substantive learning and connections. Events included an advocacy training and a panel on fundraising. LAAN also continued to send a quarterly newsletter with updates on alumni achievements and available volunteer positions. The Cultural Leadership Award, which recognizes outstanding Leadership Arts graduates was presented at the annual Business for the Arts Awards.
