Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF COLORADO YOUTH FOR A CHANGE IS TO SOLVE COLORADO'S DROPOUT CRISIS. BECAUSE EVEN ONE STUDENT WHO DROPS OUT IS TOO MANY, WE ARE COMMITTED TO CONTINUING THIS WORK THROUGH THOUGHTFUL PARTNERSHIPS, REENGAGEMENT, EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION, ATTENDANCE, AND FUTURES ACADEMY.

FUTURES ACADEMY: THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH AURORA PUBLIC SCHOOLS, CYC OPERATES FUTURES ACADEMY IN AURORA, WHICH PROVIDES STUDENTS WHO ARE SIGNIFICANTLY BEHIND IN CREDITS FOR THEIR AGE WITH DIRECT-INSTRUCTION GED PREPARATION AND CONCURRENT COMMUNITY OR TECHNICAL COLLEGE ENROLLMENT OPPORTUNITIES. CYC ENROLLED 357 YOUTH IN FUTURES ACADEMY DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR; 65 STUDENTS ATTAINED THEIR GED; 44 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN COURSES AT COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF AURORA OR PICKENS TECHNICAL COLLEGE.

PREVENTION: CYC FOCUSES ON K-3RD GRADE LITERACY, 9TH - 12TH GRADEACADEMICS, AND ATTENDANCE AMONG HIGH SCHOOL AGE YOUTH TO ADDRESS THE DROPOUT CRISIS THROUGH A PREVENTATIVE LENS.1) EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION: EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION SPECIALISTS PROVIDE ACADEMIC INTERVENTIONS, SKILL-BUILDING TRAINING, TUTORING, AND ADVOCACY TO HELP OFF-TRACK 9TH GRADE STUDENTS PASS CORE COURSES AND EARN NECESSARY CREDITS TO HELP THEM GRADUATE ON TIME. CYC SERVED 153 YOUTH THROUGH THIS PROGRAM DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR; 88%RAISED AT LEAST ONE FAILING GRADE.2) CORPS FOR A CHANGE: ATTENDANCE SPECIALISTS PROVIDE SUPPORT TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH 70-90% ATTENDANCE AND WORK COLLABORATIVELY WITH SCHOOL STAFF TO INCREASE ENGAGEMENT IN SCHOOL AND REDUCE DROPOUT RATES FOR STUDENTS WITH LOWER THAN AVERAGE ATTENDANCE. SPECIALISTS CHECK ATTENDANCE DAILY, MAKE PHONE CALLS AND HOME VISITS, AND PROVIDE RESOURCES TO REMOVE BARRIERS TO STUDENTS ATTENDING SCHOOL. CYC SERVED 479 STUDENTS THROUGH THIS PROGRAM.3) COLORADO READING CORPS: TRAINED TUTORS (AMERICORPS MEMBERS) PROVIDE ONE-ON-ONE, 20 MINUTE, DAILY LITERACY INTERVENTIONS TO KINDERGARTEN THROUGH THIRD GRADE STUDENTS PERFORMING BELOW GRADE LEVEL IN READING TO GET THEM ON TRACK. CYC SERVED 1327 K-3RD GRADERS; 68% OF TUTORED ACHIEVED MORE THAN A YEAR'S WORTH OF GROWTH.

REENGAGEMENT: REENGAGEMENT SPECIALISTS ASSIST OUT-OF-SCHOOL HIGH SCHOOLSTUDENTS IN RETURNING TO SCHOOL, AND ESTABLISH RELATIONSHIPS WITH STAFFAT CHARTER, ALTERNATIVE, AND TRADITIONAL SCHOOLS TO ENSURE YOUTHCONNECT WITH APPROPRIATE EDUCATIONAL VENUES TO SUPPORT THEIR SUCCESS.SPECIALISTS SUPPORT STUDENTS AFTER REENROLLMENT TO ENSURE STABILITY,ACCOUNTABILITY, AND SUCCESS. CYC ASSISTED 417 OUT-OF-SCHOOL YOUTHREENROLL IN SCHOOL OR TRANSFER TO A SCHOOL THAT BETTER FITS THEIR NEEDSDURING THE SCHOOL YEAR; 67% ENDED THE YEAR WITH CONTINUED ENROLLMENTOR GRADUATION.
