Organizations Filed Purposes:
The Denver Police Law Enforcement Museum (DPLEM) promotes social impact by building bridges between citizens and the law enforcement of Denver creating opportunities for community understanding and engagement, strengthening the citys relationship with the community, and educating youth to inspire community involvement, responsibility, and a future generation of law enforcement professionals.
DPLEM seeks to create positive experiences for kids and police officers that will lead to improving trust between youth and law enforcement. Some of the programs were partnering with METRO/SWAT in the Fall of 2019 to host 24 6th graders from two Denver Public Schools for an afternoon of fun and learning. Other youth programs are Who You Gonna Call? 911 In Action, behind the scenes at the Denver Police Crime Lab, staying safe online, healthy relationships.
Consulting - DPLEM Board of Directors is working with a consulting group in order to develop strategies to finance a permanent building to house the museum artifacts.
Community outreach on 20+ events with information booths and vintage police car displays. Host, or co-host events with the Denver Police Department, including the annual Police Memorial Service, Public Safety Expo, and 1st Responder Tribute 9-11. Honored trail-blazing officers during Black History Month. Maintain website to support and inform Denver Police Museum supporters and increase community support of Police. Quarterly printing and mailing of newsletters to over 3,000 interested Police Officers and citizens. Installed memorial street signs honoring Fallen Officers, purchased headstones for fallen officers who were in unmarked graves. Continuous research on Fallen Officer biographies, genealogical requests submitted from families, the Denver Police Department, and Pension Association. Developed a Volunteer base of over 70+ Volunteers to assist in accomplishing goals of archiving, staffing office, and other duties.
Contracting with a Consultant who has a background in acquisitions and museum operations to train volunteer staff. The Museum Staff has a role in training of new Police Recruits via a 2-hr presentation on the History of the Denver Police Department (DPD) and scheduling visits to the Archiving Office with youth groups, retired officers, families, and current officers. Entered into contract with the City & County of Denver to catalog, curate, and store DPD owned artifacts. To date, nearly 17,000+ items belonging to the Denver Police Department or the museum have been cataloged. Provided resources and research to Homicide Cold Case Unit on historical unsolved cases. Held community conversations addressing the concerns of our community members and their needs. Program development in partnership with the DPD and their Community Resources Officers addressing the city's biggest safety concerns.
