Organizations Filed Purposes:
GRANT AVENUE COMMUNITY CENTER & SACRED PLACE, INC. (HISTORIC GRANT AVENUE) PROVIDES A COOPERATIVE, SAFE AND AFFORDABLE ENVIRONMENT THAT CATERS TO THE ARTS AND CULTURAL, EDUCATIONAL AND SPIRITUAL ACTIVITIES WHILE PRESERVING A HISTORIC AND SACRED BUILDING THAT ENRICHES LIVES IN THE CENTRAL AND SURROUNDING DENVER COMMUNITIES. IN FURTHERANCE OF THIS MISSION, HISTORIC GRANT AVENUE OWNS, LEASES, OPERATES, MAINTAINS AND PRESERVES A MULTI- PURPOSE COMMUNITY CENTER WHICH PROVIDES SPACE FOR RELIGIOUS AND PUBLICLY SUPPORTED ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE DEDICATED TO ADDRESSING THESE CAUSES. HISTORIC GRANT AVENUE CONTINUES TO PRESERVE THIS HISTORIC AND SACRED BUILDING, CONSISTENT WITH ITS MISSION.
AS STEWARDS OF THIS HISTORIC LANDMARK, GRANT AVENUE COMMUNITY CENTER IS A NONPROFIT SERVING OTHER PUBLICLY SUPPORTED ORGANIZATIONS AND GROUPS BY PROVIDING SAFE AND AFFORDABLE MULTI-PURPOSE OR EVENT SPACES FOR THE ARTS, CULTURAL, EDUCATIONAL AND SPIRITUAL ACTIVITIES THAT ENRICH LIVES.
THE GRANT AVENUE COMMUNITY CENTER AND SACRED PLACE, INC. (DBA: HISTORIC GRANT AVENUE) EXISTS TO EMPOWER A DIVERSE POPULATION OF INDIVIDUALS WITHIN THE DENVER AREA, TO CREATE AND STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY THROUGH THE ALLIANCE OF ARTS, CULTURE, EDUCATION, COMMUNITY AND SPIRITUALITY. ESTABLISHED APRIL 23, 2001, THE COMMUNITY CENTER CURRENTLY SERVES APPROXIMATELY 10,000 PEOPLE EACH MONTH. COMMUNITY CENTER PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING NONPROFIT GROUPS: DENVER DANCE COMMUNITY (PROVIDES MONTHLY ACTIVITIES FOR SPECIAL- NEEDS YOUNG ADULTS); COLORADO HONOR BAND (CONSISTING OF 500 MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS); THE DENVER POPS ORCHESTRA; MILE HIGH FREEDOM BAND (LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY); DENVER MANDOLIN ORCHESTRA, MILE HIGH HARMONICA CLUB (SENIORS LEARNING THE HARMONICA TOGETHER), SANDY'S STUDENT STUDIO ( ADULT LEARNING VARIOUS FORMS OF DRAWING AND PAINTING), THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN GUITAR AND UKULELE ORCHESTRAS (TEACHING, REHEARSING AND SPECIAL EVENTS FROM CHILDREN TO SENIORS), ROCKY MOUNTAIN CONSERVATORY THEATER (CHILDREN'S THEATER); THE ORIGINAL GRANT AVENUE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH CONGREGATION; NEIGHBORHOOD MEETINGS; HEALTH FAIRS; TAI CHI, MAESTRO MUSIC (MUSIC LESSONS AND THEATER PRODUCTION FOR CHILDREN OF ALL AGES), AA MEETINGS, THE RELIGIOUS ACADEMY; SCHOOL OF ROCK (CHILDREN TO TEENS MUSIC GROUPS), WORKSHOPS AND CONFERENCES, SPECIAL EVENTS, FUNDRAISERS, ORCHESTRA EVENTS, AND MANY MORE HELD BY VARIOUS LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, SMALL BUSINESSES AND STARTUPS, SO THEY CAN FOCUS ON FULFILLING THEIR GOALS AND MISSION WHILE AFFORDABLY HOSTING THEIR DIVERSE SPECIAL EVENTS. THE COMMUNITY CENTER HAS BEEN DESIGNATED AS A COLORADO HISTORICAL LANDMARK AND WORKS TO PRESERVE AND RESTORE THE HISTORY OF THE BUILDING AND THE NEIGHBORHOOD. SPACE IS RENTED AT MODEST RATES TO COVER THE COST OF OPERATIONS AND TO PROVIDE A REASONABLE PRICE FOR ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS IN THE COMMUNITY.
THE ORGANIZATION MAINTAINED THE PROPERTY AT 228 GRANT STREET FOR LATER CONVERSION TO EXEMPT PURPOSE USAGE, AND RENTED THE PROPERTY TO 3 TENANTS IN ORDER TO OFFSET THE COST OF PROPERTY MAINTENANCE AND PRESERVATION.
