THE NATIONAL HISPANIC LANDSCAPE ALLIANCE, INC.(NHLA) WORKS TO INCREASE THE PROFESSIONALISM AND BUSINESS SUCCESS OF HISPANICS IN THE LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY BY (1) DEVELOPING AND PROVIDING A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF HISPANICS IN THE LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY TO ORGANIZATIONS IN THE LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY AND HISPANIC SERVING ORGANIZATIONS, (2) DRAWING HISPANICS IN GREATER NUMBERS INTO THE BROADER COMMUNITY OF LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY LEADERS, (3) FACILITATING GREATER PROFESSIONALISM AND TRANSFERRABLE BUSINESS SUCCESS AMONG HISPANICS IN THE LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY, AND (4) PROVIDING HISPANICS IN THE LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY AN EFFECTIVE VOICE IN ADVOCATING FOR INDUSTRY INTERESTS. DURING 2019, THE NHLA PRODUCED AND DISTRIBUTED BI-MONTHLY E-NEWSLETTERS TO MORE THAN 3,000 READERS, AND MAINTAINED AN ACTIVE SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE WITH A REACH OF AN ESTIMATED 20,000 USERS. EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS OFFERED INCLUDED TRAIN THE TRAINER IN ESPANOL, A THREE-DAY IMMERSION EXPERIENCE WHICH WAS ATTENDED BY 165 CREW LEADERS AND OTHER MANAGERS. TRAIN THE TRAINER IN ESPANOL EMPOWERS ATTENDEES WITH A RANGE OF TRAINING TECHNIQUES AND SKILLS FOR SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTING ACTIVE LEARNING SESSIONS, A TWO-DAY TECHNICAL TRAINING PROGRAM INTENDED AS A CERTIFIED LANDSCAPE TECHNICIAN TEST PREP WITH MODULES ON LANDSCAPE LIGHTING, TREE PLANTING, AND IRRIGATION THAT WAS ATTENDED BY 23 CREW LEADERS, AND OTHER TRAINING SESSIONS OFFERED IN SPANISH AT REGIONAL AND STATE ASSOCIATION CONFERENCES. THESE TRAINING OFFERINGS IN SPANISH WERE TRANSFORMATIVE EXPERIENCES FOR MANY OF THE HISPANIC ATTENDEES WHOM HAD NEVER HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS OFFERED IN SPANISH AND HAD PREVIOUSLY ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE THROUGH PARTIALLY UNDERSTOOD TRAININGS OFFERED IN ENGLISH AND BY OBSERVING PEERS. THE NHLA ALSO PARTICIPATED IN AN INDUSTRY-WIDE WASHINGTON, DC FLY-IN AND ORGANIZED AND CONDUCTED A BRIEFING FOR CONGRESSIONAL HISPANIC CAUCUS STAFF ON THE H-2B VISA PROGRAM AND ITS IMPORTANCE TO THE LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, THE NHLA PREPARED POSITION PAPERS AND SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS TO FACILITATE ENGAGEMENT BY NHLA MEMBERS WITH THEIR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES.
