Parent and student advocacy programs to improve student achievement within the Denver Metro Public Schools and other cities within the state. Programs enable low income parents and students to become active in the process of improving their schools.
Padres Unidos Inc. (The Organization) is a Colorado nonprofit corporation that was formed in 1996 to empower low income students and parents in the Denver Public School system and other school districts within the state to become active in the process of improving their schools. One way this is accomplished is by studying schools and districts across the state which has different demographic environments. This way the Organization can apply participatory research to seek out inequities. The Organization also uses quantifiable measurement standards and criteria to challenge outdated and ineffective policies and practices that lead to educational inequity and failure. When necessary and when invited to do so, the Organization becomes involved in collaborative efforts to develop and implement the effective strategies, reforms and policies needed to replace those being eliminated.
