Reaching Out to Community and Kids (ROCK) Food Services: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ROCK initiated a new program to provide food and basic necessities to the Dolores County community. The Community United Program (CUP) started in April 2020 and ran for the remainder of the year. In the 9 months the program ran, ROCK managed to host 14 distributions, serving a total of 1807 food boxes to 4345 total individuals. Each box consisted of non-perishable food items such as pastas and canned goods. We also provided a variety of meat products. ROCK partnered with a local farm in order to provide fresh vegetables and eggs to the community. School Snack Program: ROCK has the privilege of administering school snacks for Dolores County School District RE-2J and Beyond the Nest Learning Center for K 5th grade. ROCK's board and Executive Director shops and distributes daily healthy snacks for free, every school day. Care and Share Food Pantry, distributing 3 free monthly food baskets throughout the summer. The program targets our low-income residents and community members in need. The program is our Mobile Food Pantry which is drive-through style. Our largest number of families served at an event was 322. Summer Lunch Program was administered by ROCK- 2 days per week during the summer, providing take-home bags with enough food for 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches each day. This program was funding by the Safeway Foundation this year. ROCK prepared and served an average of 31 kids per day of operation. No family was charged for any of the meals.
Reaching Out to Community and Kids (ROCK) Youth Enrichment Services & Community Outreach: YES ROCKs! is in the 3rd year of implementation. The program targets the community youth but has aspects the entire community can enjoy. Each program in YES ROCKs! is offered free of charge to the community. In 2020, the youth-specific programs consisted of take-home kits and challenges. * Youth Hangout was converted to a weekly delivery of snack boxes and a fun challenge. We average about 4 participants a night. ? Youth Life Skills is a class offered once a week for 8 weeks over the summer. Ages 6-18 received a take-home activity kit with the link to an instructional YouTube video around the weeks topic. The summer lunch was distributed at the same time. The skills taught varied from basic first-aid, cooking, money skills, sewing, physical fitness, and tool safety. We averaged 31 kids per class. * Youth Art Classes are offered once a week for 8 weeks over the summer. Ages 6-18 received a take-home activity kit with the link to an instructional YouTube video around the weeks topic. The classes are taught by local professional artist Cody Lyon. This year the topics included; primary colors, secondary colors, shapes, textures, and creating from real life. The summer lunch is distributed at the same time. We averaged 32 kids per class. * Adult Art Classes are offered once a month and open to any Dolores County resident 18 or older. The classes are taught by local professional artist Cody Lyon. The program provides a safe, creative outlet for community members to express themselves and grow as individuals. This year each participant received a take-home kit consisting of a canvas and a set of oil paints. We averaged 23 participants per class.* YES ROCKs couldnt have their outdoor community movies this year due to COVID-19.
Reaching Out to Community and Kids (ROCK) Yearly EVENTS: All of ROCKs programs looked different this year but we were still able to host all our normal programming, drive-through style. Our annual Easter Egg dash did not happen, so instead, we distributed Easter baskets during one of our CUP food distributions. We distributed a total of 125 baskets. We also had the Easter bunny present to wave to the kids who came through the line. 6th Annual School Supply Distribution is an event where ROCK provides resources to help build a better foundation for educating our youth. ROCK is funded to provide supplies to every kid regardless of their family income for grades Pre-k through 8th grade and Beyond the Nest Learning Center. In 2020 we had a total of 158 students. ROCK provides everything each student needs for the teacher required supply list. ALL FREE. The Halloween Spooktacular Carnival was unable to happen due to COVID-19, so instead ROCK provided a drive-through experience for all Dolores County and Egnar youth. The children received a goodie bag full of Halloween treats, a balloon, and a fun Halloween mask. Pictures were taken of the youth in their masks through their car windows. ROCK distributed a total of 125 goodies. This year we were able to offer our Halloween services for FREE. ROCK the Holidays brings Santa to town spreading joy throughout the community and personally presented each child with a giant candy cane. It is an event open to the entire community and engages everyone in holiday traditions. In 2020, we had 140 youth drive-through for the event. The event included; a visit with Santa, a take-home supper kit which included the fixing for smores, and a Christmas Eve activities kit. Lastly, at this event, we distributed gloves and hats to each child in attendance. ALL FREE.12th Annual Angel Tree Program: In its 12th year (2020), volunteers coordinated, wrapped, and distributed gifts to 82 low-income children from 35 families in our community. Each Angel Tree family was provided a large turkey and unprepared food box. The box includes substantial sides and snacks.4th Annual Golden Angel distribution: In 2020 ROCK delivered 89 hot meals to our senior citizens. The seniors, who are a little more secluded, received gifts of warm socks, gloves, lotions, and treats. The program is a huge success and we plan to continue and expand the program moving into the future.
