Organizations Filed Purposes: THE SAN JUAN CITIZENS ALLIANCE ADVOCATES FOR CLEAN AIR, PURE WATER, AND HEALTHY LANDS - THE FOUNDATIONS OF RESILIENT COMMUNITIES, ECOSYSTEMS AND ECONOMIES IN THE SAN JUAN BASIN.

CLIMATE CHANGE: SAN JUAN CITIZENS ALLIANCE CONTINUES TO PURSUE RETIREMENT OF POLLUTING COAL FACILITIES IN THE FOUR CORNERS REGION, AND TO SECURE A CLEANER SOURCE OF ELECTRICITY FOR COLORADO. THE ORGANIZATION MAINTAINES DILIGENT OVERSIGHT OF COMPLIANCE WITH ENVIRMENTAL LAWS BY THE FOUR CORNERS POWER PLANT AND ASSOCATED NAVAJO MINE, AS WELL AS THE SAN JUAN GENERATING STATION AND SAN JUAN MINE. THE ORGANIZATION WORKED TO CHANGE THE POLICIES OF LA PLATA ELECTRIC ASSOCIATION AND IT'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS TO PURSUE LOCAL, RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES.

PUBLIC LANDS PROTECTION: THE SAN JUAN CITIZENS ALLIANCE SPEARHEADED PROTECTIONS FOR 60,000 ACRES OF UNDEVELOPED WILDLANDS IN THE HEART OF THE SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS BY ENCOURAGING LOCAL SUPPORT FOR THE SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS WILDERNESS ACT. WE MONITORED DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES INCLUDING PROPOSED TIMBER SALES, OIL AND GAS LEASES, AND TRAVEL MANAGMENT PLANS TO ENSURE THE PROTECTION OF WILDLIFE HABITAT AND QUIET RECREATION USES.

ANIMAS RIVER: IN 2019, THE SAN JUAN CITIZENS ALLIANCE FOCUSED ON THE CLEAN UP OF THE ANIMAS RIVER HEADWATERS FROM POLLUTION ARISING FROM THE BONITA PEAK MINING DISTRICT SUPERFUND SITE. THE ORGANIZATION PARTICIPATED IN THE OFFICIAL COMMUNITY ADVISORY GROUP AND PROVIDED TECHNICAL FEEDBACK TO THE EPA. THE ORGANIZATION ADVOCATED FOR IMPROVED PUBLIC RECREATION ACCESS TO INSREASE PUBLIC AWARENESS OF WATER QUALITY AND WATER QUANTITY ISSUES FACING THE ANIMAS RIVER.
