THE MISSION OF ECHO IS TO ASSIST PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY WITH THEIR BASIC AND URGENT NEEDS AND TO HELP THEM REALIZE THEIR POTENTIAL ON A PATH TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY.
THE MISSION OF ECHO IS TO ASSIST PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY WITH THEIR MOST BASIC AND URGENT NEEDS AND TO HELP THEM REALIZE THEIR POTENTIAL ON A PATH TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY. ECHO FULFILLS THIS MISSION BY OFFERING H.O.P.E. - HELP, OPPORTUNITIES, PROGRAMS AND EDUCATION - TO MOVE PEOPLE FROM THE CRISIS AT HAND. INDIVIDUALS SEEKING ASSISTANCE WORK WITH ECHO CLIENT ADVOCATES TO ADDRESS AND ASSESS THEIR NEEDS AND TOGETHER AN INDIVIDUAL ACTION PLAN IS DEVELOPED TO ENCOURAGE AND SUPPORT THEM AS THEY MOVE FORWARD. OUR BIGGEST SUCCESS IS MOVING INDIVIDUALS FROM THE CRISIS AT HAND TO A PLACE OF HOPE. IN 2019 ECHO CLIENT ADVOCATES PROVIDED 1,369 SERVICES TO CLIENTS AND 96 NEW CLIENTS RECEIVED SERVICES. ECHO'S FOOD BANK, CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES, JOBS CENTER, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, AND SHELTER PROGRAM ALL ARE DESIGNED TO ADDRESS A SPECIFIC NEED AND ALL HELP RESIDENTS OF OUR MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES. COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIPS WITH OTHER AGENCIES PROVIDE THE ADDITIONAL RESOURCES AND PROGRAMS THAT WE DO NOT OFF
THE ORGANIZATION RECEIVES DONATIONS OF FOOD, CLOTHING, HOUSEWARES AND FIREWOOD, WHICH IS THEN DISTRIBUTED AS NEEDED TO CLIENTS. SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD IS ALSO PURCHASED. THE ECHO FOOD BANK IS THE AREA'S LARGEST CLIENT CHOICE FOOD PANTRY OFFERING SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD, PERSONAL HYGIENE AND HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS, PET FOOD, FIREWOOD, HOLIDAY MEALS, SCHOOL SUPPLIES, NUTRITION EDUCATION, AND ON-SITE HOT MEALS TO SHOPPERS. ADDITIONALLY, ECHO PARTICIPATES IN THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (TEFAP) THAT ALLOWS THE ECHO FOOD PANTRY TO SUPPLEMENT THE DIETS OF LOW-INCOME CLIENTS WITH UNLIMITED AMOUNTS OF SELECT FOOD ITEMS ON A MONTHLY BASIS. DURING 2019 WE ACCOMPLISHED THE FOLLOWING: FOOD FOR 315,612 MEALS WAS DISTRIBUTED; 7,898 SHOPPING VISITS, IMPACTING 18,594 INDIVIDUALS WERE RECORDED; 88 CHILDREN REGISTERED FOR THE SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM, UP FROM 60 IN 2018; AND OVER 175 HOUSEHOLDS SHOPPED WEEKLY AT THE FOOD PANTRY. OVER 200 FAMILIES RECEIVED HOLIDAY MEALS FOR THANKSGIVING, CHRISTMAS, AND EASTER. SPECIAL PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN INCLUDED BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND SHOPPING, EASTER BASKETS, AND HOLIDAY GIFTS IN DECEMBER.
ECHO PROVIDED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE (PAID DIRECTLY TO THE SERVICE PROVIDER) TO HOUSEHOLDS TO HELP WITH VARIOUS EXPENSES INCLUDING RENT, UTILITIES, TELEPHONE, AUTO, MEDICINE, CHILD CARE, EDUCATION AND OTHER MISCELLANEOUS COST. ECHO ALSO WORKS CLOSELY WITH OTHER AGENCIES TO PROVIDE OUR CLIENTS WITH CARE FOR MENTAL HEALTH, DOMESTIC ABUSE, MEDICAL ISSUES AND EXPENSES OUR ORGANIZATION CANNOT PROVIDE.
ECHO RUNS A RESALE SHOP WHICH SUPPORTS OUR CORE MISSION AS WELL AS PROVIDES FUNDS TO SUPPORT OUR OPERATIONS. ALL ITEMS SOLD ARE CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THE COMMUNITY. THIS IS CLOTHING, FURNITURE, HOUSEHOLD ITEMS, TOYS, ETC. THERE ARE PAID EMPLOYEES WHO PROCESS THOSE DONATIONS AND THERE ARE MANAGERS OVERSEEING THE OPERATION. THERE ARE ALSO APPROXIMATELY 250 VOLUNTEERS WHO DONATED OVER 13,450 HOURS TO HELP RUN THE SHOP. THE RESALE SHOP BENEFITS THE COMMUNITY IN MANY WAYS. OUR EMPLOYEES, THE MAJORITY WHO ARE LOW INCOME WORKERS, RECEIVE WAGES WHICH ARE GENERALLY ABOVE MINIMUM WAGE, AS WELL AS BENEFITS SUCH AS 50% OF THE HEALTH CARE COST, PAID TIME OFF, AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO ENROLL IN A SIMPLE IRA PLAN IF THEY CHOOSE. CLIENTS OF ECHO WHO ARE IN NEED OF CLOTHING, HOUSEHOLD ITEMS, ETC CAN CHOOSE ITEMS AT NO COST. INDIVIDUALS WORKING WITH OUR JOB CENTER ARE OFTEN PROVIDED WITH APPROPRIATE JOB INTERVIEW CLOTHING AS WELL AS WORK CLOTHES. COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO ARE AFFECTED BY FIRE OR FLOODING ARE ALSO PROVIDED WITH CLOTHING, FURNITURE AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS AT NO COST. THE ECHO RESALE SHOP BENEFITS THE ENTIRE MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY BY OFFERING HIGH QUALITY ITEMS AT GREATLY REDUCED PRICES. ALL ITEMS THAT ARE DONATED THAT ARE NOT PUT IN THE SHOP ARE RECYCLED TO OTHER NON-PROFITS OR ARE SOLD TO HELP SUPPORT OUR MISSION.
