FORUMTHE ACVIM FORUM IS THE VETERINARY PROFESSION'S PREMIER INTERNAL MEDICINE CONTINUING EDUCATION EVENT. VETERINARIANS AND TECHNICIANS FROM MORE THAT 45 COUNTRIES ATTEND TO PARTICIPATE IN INTERACTIVE SESSIONS, LISTEN TO LEADING EDGE SPEAKERS, AND LEARN ABOUT THE LATEST RESEARCH ABSTRACTS. THE FORUM PRESENTS LECTURES DELIVERED BY RESPECTED SPECIALISTS COVERING THE MOST RELEVANT TOPICS IN VETERINARY MEDICINE AND PROVIDES ACCESS TO THE MOST RECENT AND YET TO BE PUBLISHED RESEARCH. ACVIM HAD 3,232 ATTENDEES AT THE 2019 FORUM, WITH 52 INTERACTIVE SESSIONS (INCLUDING 2 TECHNICIAN WORKSHOPS AND 2 TECHNICIAN LUNCHEONS), 352 SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS, 373 RESEARCH ABSTRACTS (BOTH ORAL AND POSTER PRESENTATIONS), AND 672 SPEAKERS.
BOARD CERTIFICATIONTHE ACVIM SEEKS TO ENHANCE ANIMAL AND HUMAN HEALTH BY ADVANCING VETERINARY INTERNAL MEDICINE THROUGH BOARD CERTIFICATION. OUR SPECIALISTS UNDERGO CONSIDERABLE POSTGRADUATE TRAINING BEYOND THE SIX TO EIGHT YEARS OF COLLEGE EDUCATION NORMALLY REQUIRED TO EARN A VETERINARY DEGREE. THIS POSTGRADUATE TRAINING INCLUDES AN INTERNSHIP, RESIDENCY AND DOCUMENTED CLINICAL EXPERIENCE THAT LAYS THE GROUND WORK FOR A CANDIDATE TO TAKE A CERTIFICATION EXAM LEADING TO DIPLOMATE STATUS. ACVIM IS RECOGNIZED AS THE SPECIALTY COLLEGE RESPONSIBLE FOR ESTABLISHING TRAINING REQUIREMENTS, EVALUATING AND ACCREDITING TRAINING PROGRAMS AND EXAMINING AND CERTIFYING VETERINARIANS IN THE SPECIALTIES OF CARDIOLOGY, ONCOLOGY, NEUROLOGY, LARGE AND SMALL ANIMAL INTERNAL MEDICINE. IN 2019 ACVIM HAD 224 APPROVED RESIDENCY TRAINING PROGRAMS, 202 CANDIDATES TAKE THE GENERAL EXAM AND 256 CANDIDATES TAKING THE SPECIALTY EXAMS.
MEMBERSHIPACVIM MEMBER DIPLOMATES HAVE ACCESS TO THE JOURNAL OF VETERINARY INTERNAL MEDICINE (JVIM), THE MEDICAL SCIENCES LIBRARY AT TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY, DISCOUNTS ON RESOURCES, CONTINUING EDUCATION, VOLUNTEER AND LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AS WELL AS AN ONLINE COMMUNITY TO DISCUSS SPECIALTY SPECIFIC ISSUES WITH THEIR PEERS. AS OF DECEMBER 31, 2019 ACVIM HAD 862 ACTIVE DIPLOMATE MEMBERS.
