Organizations Filed Purposes:
ELPASO is a movement creating a critical mass of Latino parents who are well informed and skilled to help their children enter kindergarten ready.
ELPASO XITO gives parents the knowledge and skills to support their children before they enter kindergarten and the opportunity to share with their community their knowledge. Since 2014, 4000 parents have been visited and informed about agencies and organizations that are in the parents community to better their life and their childrens future. Each of the last past years,ELPASO XITO has trained from 30-40 Latino mothers and fathers in Early Childhood topics, such as, Language Development, early Reading and Writing skills, Early Math and Social-Emotional Development for parents to incorporate new behaviors for the better. The information is given, parent leaders implement them at home, observe the changes in their children awareness and desire for learning, and then they share it with their neighbors. ELPASO XITO has several parents who first went to the cafecitos and now they are strong participants of ELPASO XITO and offering cafecitos to their own neighbors.
ELPASO VOZ - This is a group of parents with the goal of community organizing and using their leadership skills for the betterment of Boulder County. This program focuses on leadership within the community and family wellbeing.The ELPASO VOZ in Lafayette expressed concered about the treatment of Latino children by the food emplyees so the BVSD Nutrition Director invited the ELPASO VOZ parent leaders to personally express their concern and invite the employees to treat all kiddos nicely so they feel good and are ready to keep learning. ELPASO VOZ in Boulder is working on bullying to be able to support the district and their children to stop this epidemic.
CAFECITOS- This is an integral part of ELPASO movement. Parent leaders from ELPASO XITO obtain information during the trainings, implement activities at home, and invite their neigboors, friends and relatives to have a small dinner and listen to what he or she has learned and implemented. There is an average of 120 parents participating in the ELPASO CAFECITOS per year. Some of those parents become so interested in what they are listening to they expreses their desire to participate next year in ELPASO XITO trainings. The number of parents that come from Cafecitos and become ELPASO EXITO parent leaders is around 5 per year.
